Meet Bruno, an arctic breed dream...
About: Bruno is an independent, friendly & happy boy. He is very smart, curious and playful. He is excited about life & loves to engage with his handlers.
Bruno is suitable for first time owners, or those with experience. He is also a great dog for people who want an arctic breed but have limited understanding of the breed - he is quite easy-going.
He is suitable for any household and is a great candidate for people who are active & like to spend time outdoors. He would be a great dog to take on social events, beach walks, camp trips, anything really!
Ideal Home: Bruno would be fine to live in a house or farm/acerage with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Bruno would love to have access to inside the home if possible so that he can feel like part of the family.
Family: Bruno is also open to meet kids of any age, as long as the kids are dog savvy.
Bruno is fine to live with people who work part-time hours.
Furry Friends: Bruno previously lived with dogs, he lived with Pirate (ID: 35794) and Captain (ID: 35793). However we would say that he is dog selective. During his dog assessment he displayed behaviour that showed that he was initially unsure at first and then he relaxed as the assessment went on but didn't really appear too interested in making friends, he was more interested in the envirnonemt. Bruno was a little aloof which is a typical arctic breed trait. We plan to work on his desensitisation to meeting dogs he doesn't know.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Bruno would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Bruno would also benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience which will also keep his mind active& engaged.
It is evident that Bruno has had previous training; so it is important that this training is fostered and continued so that he can be the best version of himself as he is most content when he is training or learning.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Bruno’s energy needs are medium, and he would benefit from walks, play or exercise from 20-60mins a day.
Bruno walks well on a lead but can pull a little bit in the direction of something interesting, so he is best walked on a martingale.
We haven’t yet identified a favourite toy for Bruno yet, he prefers to be walking or training.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
