About Rocky
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE, HOWEVER WE CAN ON OCCASION ARRANGE TRANSPORT BY ROAD TO THE PERTH AREA.
NAME: Rocky
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Shar Pei x
BREED TRAITS: originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight the Shar Pei is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will and socialisation with humans and dogs must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog.
****************************************************************************
ASSETS: Shy to begin with, but she’s easy going, affectionate, devoted and very sweet once she’s comfortable in her surroundings.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Rocky loves to be around her person getting attention and cuddles. She does like toys but tends to bury them in the garden. She’s learning to play fetch with a ball but the retrieval part needs some work as she runs off with it!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Rocky is a sweet, quiet girl who seems to have a sixth sense. She picks up on the emotions of her person and watches them intently when other people are around. She’s eager to please and learns new things quickly.
OTHER ANIMALS: Rocky would prefer to be the only pet in her new home, and she chases cats and birds out of the garden. Rocky is a little wary of unknown dogs but can relax around them with slow, gentle introduction but she is generally disinterested. She is living with chickens in her foster home.
GENERAL INFO: Rocky walks well on her lead and is house trained. She enjoys getting out and about in the car and will whine to get attention and can bark at strangers or other animals. Rocky is generally quiet and will just mind her own business on a walk as she enjoys lots of sniffing. She knows a couple of commands but would benefit from some ongoing training.
MEDICAL NOTES: Rocky has a sensitive skin and is currently on hypoallergenic food and fish oils.
ESSENTIALS for Rocky:
** Rocky would be best suited to a quiet, loving home where someone is there more often than not or can take her with them when they go out.
** She would prefer to be the only pet in her new home.
** Rocky needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore.
** Rocky loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night, preferably as close to her person as possible!
As Rocky is a little timid around new people she would be best suited to a family with children that are dog savvy who can read her signals and know when to give her space. She would do equally well in an adult-only home.
If Rocky sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
