About Edna
Edna is a typical chi with a tricky back story. Ed came from a house with many other little dogs, but her upbringing was very isolated from the outside world. Edna was extremely frightened at first but after time in foster care, she has come a really long way and is now very affectionate to her carer. Just like a typical chihuahua, she loves her human and can be won over with some BBQ chicken and a warm lap with lots of snugs.
Edna can also have a short window of tolerance given her slightly traumatic upbringing, the occasional warning growl or nip is normal for her, she has gotten better whilst in care, but she isn’t afraid to let you know when she’s had enough, so somebody who can be patient and understanding would be the best fit for little Eddie.
This special girl is looking for a special family who ideally have some understanding / experience with dogs that require time and patience. She has not had an easy life and whilst she gets better and better everyday, little Ed still has a ways to go before she feels totally at ease.
MY IDEAL HOME: Edna has lived with dogs before and doesn't mind the company of other small dogs. She is a homebody who doesn't enjoy leaving the comfort of her familiar surroundings. Ed likes sleeping, eating, trotting around the garden, sniffing plants and sitting with her owner getting scratches and kisses. Edna is not a party girl and requires a quiet home with only adults or older children. She is very fearful of younger kids, going on social outings and being in the car, so we can not stress how important it is that she's in a super chill, experienced home. Although with time, patience and the right humans, this may change.
MY ENERGY LEVEL: Ed is low energy. Loves to sleep and have a stroll around the garden. Edna is more at peace in the comfort of her own space and does not enjoy walks in the big wide world.
MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Edna is extremely scared of young children and loud noises. She would not be suitable to a home with children.
MY SUITABILITY TO CATS AND DOGS: Not tested with cats but other small dogs will be suitable as long as they leave her to her own devices and can give her some space.
Medical notes
Edna has billateral luxating patellas, this means her knee caps sit outside the grooves at all times, given Edna has lived with this for 7 years, her low tolerance for stress and her low energy lifestyle, surgery is not recommended. Joint supplements are recommended to reduce the risk of arthritis.
Edna has recently undergone a dental, she requires a high quality diet, dental chews and will do best with regular dental checkups / cleans at the vet.

Our foster carer will contact you when we receive your application to arrange a time for you to meet with their foster pet.
We want your adoption through Maggie's to be a good experience so we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog that may suit your situation better and the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two-week trial. At the end of the trial, we will transfer the microchip into your name and provide you with the pets vet certificates. Once you receive the Certificate of Identification from council, your adoption will be complete.
