About Charlie
Microchipped as a ‘Whippet X”, Charlie is definitely bigger than Whippet size—his long and lean build has him looking more like a Greyhound X to us. We’re thinking Greyhound X Kelpie because he has those big, stand-up Kelpie ears!
In any case, he’s a handsome lad who demonstrates both Greyhound and Kelpie physical as well as character traits. Greyhound barrel chest and gorgeous quads, Greyhound speed when he’s playing ‘chasey’, Greyhound tendency towards ‘couch potato’ when relaxing. Loves his walks, but tires easily, and is happy to quit after 30-40 minutes or so. Kelpie face and ears, and Kelpie intelligence. And how can you resist the palm-sized, heart-shaped spot of white fur on his back?
Charlie was relinquished to SAFE over a year ago when his first owner moved into aged care housing that didn’t allow dogs. He came to us dog friendly and was successfully fostered with another dog. But since being adopted he's been attacked twice by another dog, and can now sometimes be dog-reactive on lead. His current owner's health is preventing him from getting the exercise and stimulation he needs. Charlie would benefit from an owner willing to continue working on his socialisation and impulse control. Charlie is untested with cats, but is ok with chickens (doesn't bother them in their coop, but unknown how he would be if they were free ranged.)
Charlie *loves* riding in cars and has made the trip to Albany and back several times. He would love fossicking about a bush block or a country property. He's got an impressive bark and will alert to strangers--a good guard dog--at least until you pat him or offer him food :) He has a lifetime council egistration which can be transferred to the new owner. And his adoption fee includes a dental scale & clean in the process of being scheduled.
Can you give this lovely, playful boy the stable home he deserves?
