Meet Moscato, a gentle, curious & smart girl…
About: Moscato is a gentle & loving girl who is independent and friendly. She loves to engage with her handlers and is playfully spirited, smart & curious. She loves to take in the world around her but can be a little bit wary of strangers, but this wariness is often short lived as she relaxes once she gets to know you.
Moscato is suitable for owners with experience or those with breed experience. As a Maremma X, she exhibits semi-typical ‘stock guardian’ behavioural traits such as have a calm nature, being slightly aloof and as mentioned before being an independent pooch, and she appears to be most content when given a job to do – such as training. As a Maremma X, she may be more active at night also.
Moscato is suitable for any household and would be a good option for people who are active & spend time outdoors as she too could benefit from the mental stimulation, exposure to the world and the adventure itself.
Ideal Home: Moscato is best suited to live in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a large yard & high, secure fencing. Access to inside the home would be great for Moscato too.
Family: Moscato is open to meet kids of any age, again taking into consideration that she is best suited to a family with experience or a family with the willingness to learn about her breed.
She is also suitable to live with people who work part-time or full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Moscato is best to be the only dog in the house, her dog assessment indicated to us that she has had no socialisation with other dogs and her approach to seeing another dog is typical of a guardian breed as she tended to try and ‘ward’ off the other dog from approaching further.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Moscato would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners. However, based on her interaction to other dogs, we would recommend that she is best as the only animal in the house.
Training & Development: Moscato would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands & obedience, and/or guidance from a professional to cover ongoing socialisation to everyday life scenarios if being re-homed to a suburban setting.
Moscato is not really food motivated and only really likes high value treats. She is still learning her name but knows how to ‘sit’. She will occasionally jump up for attention but is clever enough to be trained out of this. When she does jump it is very soft, & gentle, just her way of saying 'hello'.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Moscato's energy needs are medium & she would benefit from exercise, play, walks or training from 30-60mins a day to keep herself entertain, her mind stimulated & her body in tip top shape.
Moscato walks well on a lead, only pulling occasionally. She is best walked on a martingale.
Moscato isn’t very interested in toys, she prefers training sessions & interaction with her handlers. High value treats in a treat puzzle or snuffle mat would be a great option instead of toys so that Moscato can play, her way.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
