About Desiree
Be prepared - this rescue will hit you in the heart .
Pregnant and dumped just outside of Port Hedland, Desiree miraculously makes her way to a mine site . From here she’s seen hanging around on the fringes but too scared to approach. Mine workers start a plan to catch her and successfully execute this . This absolutely saved her life. Without the care and persistence , she would have certainly died.
Desiree is completely stressed and traumatised by her experience and her pregnancy at this point and although she is late term, she goes into premature labour. Enter the South Hedland vets who perform lifesaving surgery on her, devastatingly all her pups did not make it despite their efforts but they saved Desiree’s life. The second time she’s been saved from certain death.
She’s now recovering in foster care and every day she is coming more and more out of her shell and learning again that humans can be trusted again . If not for the mine workers and the vets we don’t think it would have been possible for her to trust again , and she certainly would not be here today .
Desiree is a very cuddly shadow. She follows you around and wants to be with you. She is still settling in and recovering but is shaping up to be a lovely temperament. She’s a medium size mixed breed dog, she’s got some training ahead of her, but she’s keen to please. She will need a considerate home and one where she will regain her confidence and know each and every day that she is special and worthy.
Whilst she is in foster care with other dogs (small) and adult cats she needs time to reset and she might be better suited to a home without other distractions. She’s attaching to adults and is very friendly and loving but getting a little jealous of others getting too close. This could extend to younger children - it is untested. Whilst she is still in her decompressing stage and her true personality has yet to emerge along with her trauma behaviours these difficulties with sharing the caregivers with others are currently evident. With boundaries and time and patience and training she will learn there’s enough love to go around and she doesn’t need to consume it all and prevent others from accessing it too. Poor little pet.
