About Tinkerbelle
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
NAME: Tinkerbelle (AKA Ellie)
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.
BREED: Mastiff X
TRAITS: Mastiffs are good-natured, affectionate, dignified, and protective - being bred as a guardian to family. He will mature into a calm and quiet dog who loves being with his people. He can be aloof to strangers and wary of unknown dogs so early socialisation with people and dogs is essential. Mastiffs can be mouthy so obedience training and clear boundaries are a must. Mastiffs do not like being alone and are definitely inside dogs that want to be lap dogs if given a chance. If not exercised and lonely they will pine and be destructive. They are not for novice owners.
*********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, eager to please, friendly, laid-back, obedient, quiet and playful! Ellie is a little fearful of new people and situations initially but settles once she has reassurance from her carer.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Chasey! Ellie loves to chase anything that moves, especially seaweed at the beach and birds. She also has a bubble machine that she loves and enjoys playing with her tug rope.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She’s incredibly sweet and loving and loves to be by your side wherever you are. Her foster carer describes her as a big goofy puppy who doesn’t know her own strength at times.
OTHER ANIMALS: Ellie can bark at dogs she doesn’t know but with training and gentle exposure she is learning to ignore other dogs on walks. She does have a Staffy doggy friend who she loves to play with so she can accept other dogs with gentle introduction. We would expect her new owner to continue with her training and gentle exposure. She has shown chasing behaviour so we won’t rehome her with cats or any other small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Ellie’s lead work and command training is great but ongoing training would be good for her. She is mostly housetrained but has the odd accident when left alone and will bark at strange noises.
ESSENTIALS for Ellie:
** An active, loving home where someone is there more often than not or can take her with them when out.
** Ellie is being fostered as an only dog so we feel for now she would benefit from being the one and only.
** An owner who will continue to train her and build on the progress she has made in care - classes where she can continue to relax around other dogs and learn and grow her confidence.
** Being an active girl, she needs good daily exercise and mental activity so an active home that is willing to involve her in family activities.
** Ellie needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things for her to sniff and explore.
** Ellie loves to be with her people so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.
Ellie could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10 years of age who are old enough to recognize her signals and give her space if she needs it.
If Ellie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
