Meet Candy, a soft, sweet, gentle & sensitive little girl...
About: Candy came in to us a matted mess, she took a trip to the salon & is now sporting a fancy new doo!
Candy is a gentle and sensitive lady who is agreeable and friendly. A happy girl who is curious about the world & has a sweet playful streak, coupled with social, and engaging affection for everyone she meets.
She is suitable for first time owners, or those with experience. If you are the type of person who is active and spend time outdoors we would love to say that Candy would be up for adventure, but she kind of likes to sleep a lot...
Ideal Home: Candy is suitable for any property type or dwelling, and yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the yard is fully fenced and secure so that she can play outside safely.
Access to both indoors and outdoors would be a bonus so that Candy can get the best of both worlds & spend time inside with her family.
Family: Candy is open to meeting kids of all ages, she is also compatible for people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Candy is dog social, but during her dog assessment she indicated that she truly prefers to be by herself, with her human. She is not dog reactive was was unsure during her interaction. She will tolerate other dogs, but she much prefers being the only dog as this is where she looks & feels most comfortable.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Candy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Candy would benefit from post-adoption training such as at home training to cover all basic obedience and commands.
With a little extra training & guidance Candy could be the type of dog that you can take to a dog park, dog friendly café or social event.
Candy loves food, and she takes treats gently from your hand. Treats are also a good resource to use when it comes to training and obedience.
Candy kind of knows her name, but she doesn't know any commands or basic obedience, so her new owners should invest time with a professional to get a training plan under way as soon as possible.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: With low-medium energy needs Candy would benefit from exercise, walks or play every 2-3 days, anywhere from 20-30mins to keep her mind & body happy & healthy.
Candy walks well on a lead but can pull or drag behind, so she is best walked on a martingale/collar & lead. Candy isn’t too interested in toys either as she prefers human interaction and personal play.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
