About Betty
It's not all plain sailing for mothers..
Betty was rescued from the street heavily pregnant and very thin. Surprisingly she gave birth to 7 kittens, but they were very small. Because she was so malnourished herself Betty struggled to feed them all from her meagre milk resources.
Betty couldn't cope with her kittens demands, and like many human mothers, she became depressed, stopped eating and started to spend time away from her babies. Unfortunately 5 of them haven't made it - and this is probably due to a combination of them not having enough nourishment as they were forming in the womb and they couldn't get enough nourishment after birth. Happily two of them are still with us and eating well. They are still smaller than normal but have great spirit and we have our fingers crossed.
We continue to make sure Betty is eating highly nutritious food to bring her weight up and she will be available for adoption in a few weeks but it will take a month or so for her two babies to be healthy enough to be adopted.
Despite her hardships, Betty has always been incredibly affectionate and she will integrate into any loving family with children over 5 to become the treasured family cat. Betty is a gentle, affectionate young girl.
