About Motley
Motley not only has a gorgeous Merle coloured coat, but he has the most beautiful temperament to match. He’s just a friendly, soft natured and emotionally intelligent dog. This lovely boy found himself at the top of the euthanasia list in a rural pound, thankfully we had a carer who just couldn’t resist him and so he made it to safety just in the nick of time.
Whilst sitting at a good size of just a touch over 27kg, due to his relaxed and easy going nature he feels more liked a medium sized dog. Motley has impeccable house manners and loves to join his carer in for some gardening, cooking or watching tv. He is ALWAYS up for some couch snuggles, but will also take himself off to his bed to relax if you are busy or have guests over. Although he is a fantastic house member, he still loves to play. He absolutely loves his toys and will spend some of the day running around the garden with his favourite toys or if his foster carers are up for a game of tug he will never say no! When he has had his play, he can often be found relaxing in the sun dreaming about how good foster care life is.
Motley has been enjoying familiarising himself with the big smoke. For a country dog, he has taken it all in his stride and enjoys his daily outings a lot. He is confident and calm in new environments unless there is a loud noise, but he recovers very quickly and he absolutely loves his walks where he very much likes to say hello to new people. He has enough energy to keep up with whatever fun activities you have in store, but doesn’t need huge outings every day. If you are busy some days, he will be just fine with a daily walk and some playtime as long as you make up for it with some fun adventures on the weekend! This boy would absolutely love a family who will take him along with them to new and exciting places like the beach, cafes, pubs or camping.
He is currently in care with another large breed dog who he gets along with famously. She is a bit older than him, but he is very respectful of her and they enjoy lying together or having a little game of tug. He has also been very social with all dogs he has met out and about. We would love motley to be rehomed with another large female dog as this is what he is used to, but he should be fine with any other size or gender dog, or even as an only dog, as long as his new family can help him adjust to life as an only dog as this would be a new experience for him. His new family will need to provide him with opportunities to socialise with other dogs, preferably in the form of play dates and social walks rather than dog parks where there is a lot of unpredictability.
Motley is a smart cookie and has already learnt a lot of new skills in care. He is crate trained and even takes himself off to his crate at bedtime where he sleeps peacefully without a peep all night. He is brushing up on some basic commands which his new owners will need to continue with; but he is so easy to have around regardless of his basic commands repertoire! Motley travels well in the car and in fact loves going for car rides. He is completely toilet trained - he did have a couple of accidents at the very beginning for the first day or so as he was settling in, but no toilet accidents since. He can pull a small amount to start with on walks when he’s feeling fresh, but settles quickly into the rhythm and is a pleasure to walk. With a little more leash work to curb his initial zest for a walk, he will be the perfect outing companion. He is non destructive and not a barker and has been ok left alone with the resident dog while the carers are out for a few hours here or there. He will need his people home more often than not during the settling in few months to ensure a smooth transition and he feels safe before being left alone for long periods. Motley loves his food which makes training a breeze! He is a moderately active dog - chill when he’s had his exercise, but definitely still a young dog who loves a bit of play time and burning some energy before resting. A family who plan to do a good daily outing and factor in some toy time will be perfect for this lovely boy.
This boy has an A+ report card from his foster carers and is going to make an absolutely exceptional addition to a lucky family. He has the sweetest nature and whoever meets him will fall head over heels in love with him. Motley will require a family that will allow him inside as a member of the family, provided a good quality diet, taken on lots of fun adventures and provided a place to sleep inside of a night.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
