Meet Bandit! This young pup will melt your heart with beautiful eyes that beg you to love him back, and soft kelpie ears that flop every which way. He is a chatterbox, a bit of a clown, delightful, irresistible, exuberant, and a loving puppy.
Bandit is a highly intelligent and well-adjusted, very loving and eager to please. He has a fantastic temperament, and he is never far from his foster carer's side. This handsome wee dude has the face of a Kelpie and the body of a Cattle Dog.
When Bandit first came into care, he spent the first few days out of town with temporary carers where he had had his sister for company, as well as cats and ducks, plus older medium to large dogs who kept him in line. When he first came into care he was undernourished and feeling rather poorly, however with meds, 4 meals a day and lots of love, he quickly became a normal puppy who sleeps and cuddles in between bouts of terrorising his much older foster doggy sister and brother. Like a typical growing boy he loves food and seems to have hollow legs! He now sits politely for his meals - he is very food driven so he should be easy to train.
Bandit responds well to correction if he is misbehaving and he is learning to walk very well on a halti. He has full access to his carer's house and yard during the day but sleeps outside at night with his foster doggy brothers and sisters.
Bandit is very aware of his surrounds and is proving to be a good guard dog. He does not bark excessively, and if there is something happening in the neighbourhood, he will simply warn you with soft snorts, and maybe a couple of barks. He will chime in with dogs barking in the neighbourhood if he suspects that there is something to worry about. But he only joins in to pass on the warning, and quickly settles.
Kelpies are highly intelligent and will often get into mischief if left to their own devices. They require plenty of exercise and may become bored if cooped up for prolonged periods of time. If you keep a kelpie occupied and engaged, they will thrive. If a kelpie joins a family with children, it is essential to develop strong boundaries for the entire family to follow. It is recommended that Bandit attends structured training sessions to develop and enhance his natural delightful nature.
Bandit would be happy in any loving home, with or without other dogs, provided he is given the mental an physical exercise he needs. He would love to have older children to play with, but is quite adaptable, and will do well as long as he is kept active.
Bandit is $400 + $100 desex bond* to adopt and comes microchipped, C5 vaccinated, and given flea/tick/worm prevention.
*Desex bond will be refunded once pup is desexed at one of our nominated vets at the appropriate age. It is a non-negotiable conditions of adoption that pups are desexed prior to 8 months of age, unless otherwise approved by NQAR. The cost of desexing is included in the adoption fee, as long as it is done at one of our nominated vets.
