Meet Delta, a loving and endearing superhound…
About: Delta is an agreeable, friendly & happy girl. She is confident in herself & comfortable in her surrounds. She is outgoing, very smart, and curious.
Delts may be a tad boisterous at times & a little bit excited about all that life has on offer but overall, she is a playful girls who is engaging with her humans & showers them with attention & affection.
Delta is best suited to people who have owned dogs before or have shepherd breed experience.
Due to her adaptable nature, she is also suitable to any kind of household & would be a great choice for people who are active and outdoorsy. She will happily go on hikes, road trips, even a camping adventure if given the opportunity to do so.
Ideal Home: Delta would do well living in a house or on a farm/acerage, with a large yard & high secure fencing.
A home that allows her access to inside is highly regarded too so she can have all of the creature comforts at her disposal.
Family: Delta is open to meet kids of all ages but it’s important to note her size & her wiggly bottom as she may knock smaller kids over during playtime.
Delta is also a perfect choice for people who work part-time or from home.
Furry Friends: Delta is neutral when it comes to other dogs, we know that she previously lived with dogs before coming in to us & during her dog assessment she was a little unsure at first but as it progressed, she became relaxed and was more aloof than interested in making dog friends.
Delta is not dog reactive, but she is perfectly fine being the only dog in the home.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Delta would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the direction of her new owners.
Training & Development: Delta would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to cover basic commands or training with a professional, not for any reason in particular other than the fact that Delta wants to learn & thrives off being stimulated, a professional could ramp up her training regime or at least give you a regime to go off.
With further training Delta could be the kind of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
Delta loves her food & treats and they are a great tool to use during training sessions, but she can sometimes be a little snatchy when taking them.
Delta knows her name & also knows how to ‘sit’ & ‘stay’. She can sometimes jump but is responding well to counteractive training.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Deltas energy needs are medium & she would benefit from exercise/walking or playtime from 30-60mins per day to keep her mind & body happy & healthy.
She walks well on a lead & is fine to be walked with a flat collar and lead. She loves toys especially a game of fetch, rope toys & tug toys.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
