Meet Major, an energetic boy who’s ready for his next adventure…
About: Major is a friendly & social guy who is excited about life. He is also very playful. He can at times be boisterous, but he is outgoing and loves the simple pleasures of life; such as food time, a tasty treat, a simple toy, or even just a walk…
Major is a dog best suited to someone who has owned dogs before & those who have experience with energetic natured dogs.
Though, based on his adaptable nature he is also suitable for any household and is a good choice for people who are active & love spending time outdoors – he will happily accompany you on walks, hikes, beach trips, camping & more!
Ideal Home: Major would be best suited in a house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard & high secure fencing.
Major loves human interaction so he would appreciate being able to spend time inside the home where he can snuggle up to his favourite people & truly feel like a family member.
Family: Major is open to meet kids but due to his high energy levels we would say that he is best to be around older kids from 12 years and up, reason for this is because he does jump (although we are doing training with him to counter this behaviour) he is just an excitable boy & means no harm.
He is also suitable for people who work part-time or from home.
Furry Friends: Major is open to meet other dogs. During his dog assessment Major was a little unsure at first but as the assessment went on he became relaxed and social and displayed happy & playful behaviour although he does need training when it comes to his manners.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Major would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the direction of his new owners.
As always, we recommend that when introducing your new & existing animals that it is done slowly & that each animals boundaries are respected.
Training & Development: Major would benefit from post-adoption training, such as training at home to continue his basic commands, group classes to continue his dog social skills as well as 1 on 1 with a professional to polish his manners & get him to focus. Leash training would also be good & can be done at home.
Major loves treats & takes them gently & he will offer a ‘sit’ for them too, so treats will be a great training tool for his new owners to use. Major is still learning his name.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Major’s energy needs are high, so he would benefit from exercise, walks or playtime from 30-60+ mins a day to keep his mind engaged and happy.
He loves being busy, so long-lasting treats or treat puzzles would be a great investment. He loves chew toys, so Kongs would be good too.
Major walks well on a lead but he is excited & will pull, he is best walked on a martingale & lead.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
