Meet Little Miss Lucy, aka Lucy, a lovely older girl…
About: Lucy is a friendly older lady, she is incredibly social, happy and outgoing. She’s a confident girl who is excitable, engaging & very affectionate with people.
She is suitable for first time owners, or those with experience with doggy ownership.
Due to her adaptable nature Lucy is also suitable for any household & don’t let her age hold you back because she would also be a great fit for people who are active & outdoorsy.
Ideal Home: Lucy is a dog who is suitable to live in any property type or dwelling, yard size doesn’t matter either, as long as the fencing is high & secure.
As an older lady Lucy enjoys the comforts of a warm cozy bed, so time spent inside the home would be well received by this little lady who loves to be comfy!
Family: Lucy is open to meet kids from 5 years and up, this is simply because she may jump a little & we don’t want small kiddos to be knocked over.
Lucy is also fine to live with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Lucy is best as the only dog in the home, during her dog assessment she seemed uneasy around other dogs and showed behaviour which indicated that she was not comfortable. We are going to work with her on this as this reaction to another dog may be because she was never exposed to them so working on her desensitisation may assist her.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Lucy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the direction of her new owners.
Training & Development: Post-adoption training, such as training at home will keep her basic commands sharp.
She loves her treats & will offer tricks for them in return, so treats are a good training tool for her. She knows her name (Lucy) and also knows how to ‘sit’ & ‘lay down’.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Lucy’s energy needs are medium, so exercise, walks or simple playtime would be beneficial for her, anything from 20-60mins a day will be enough to keep her happy & healthy.
Lucy walks well on a lead but can be strong, so she is best walked on a martingale & lead.
She also loves toys, especially soft, stuffed toys.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
