This boy is a stunning looking pooch with a superb personality to match. He has an extremely gentle reserved demeanor who will blossom in a loving calm gentle home
We are seeking a home with secure fencing and another dog for companionship

Love roast Chicken, this will win his heart

Doby arrived from a country pound after having lived on a property so moving to the city has been a huge change for sweet Doby he was a little to lazy lol to be a worker so was not required on the farm
Doby is timid around all humans, especially tall men. He is warming up well to his foster mum and her family. They have been building his trust over the past few weeks by hand feeding, training and walking Doby daily. The Dobster is definitely more comfortable around women and children. Doby will now comfortably sit next to his foster mum for a pat on her lap or have a cuddle on the couch. He is going to take time with love and patience to develop that human bond with his new people. He will sniff people’s hands but will retreat if he feels uncomfortable. He has not displayed any form of aggression to people but if it’s a highly excitable situation his kelpie excitement has come out with a little nip nip of the heels lol. This was when his foster buddies were being reved up in play by the teenagers in the home.
He has met calm children at the park who sat at patted him. If kids are are excitable his kelpie traits may come out so we are thinking a mature family is best
Dobys foster mum has been exposing him to areas with people like soccer and footy games. He can be a little nervous by bouncing balls and people running towards him but otherwise has tolerated these situations very well. He has been exposed to trains, traffic and people on bikes and has not displayed any desire to chase. He has a low prey drive for a kelpie
Doby will take at least 2 weeks to start to feel comfortable with his new owners so you need to be prepared to take things slowly, be patient and kind. He will come around and soon be sitting up on the couch with you wanting a belly scratch. He really is such a little sweetheart
Doby is a typical intelligent Kelpie who has picked up new commands with ease. He is smart, having learned to sit, stay, drop, come here, wait for food and the door before a walk. Doby is not jumpy at all
Doby was practicing recall on a long lead and was showing great potential so we tried some off lead time and he has excelled and displays great recall coming back each time.
Doby coming from a property is still learning inside manners so can be a bit opportunistic to steal food of benches etc but has shown no destructive traits of chewing or destroying items.
Well this boy loves all the four legged friends he has met. Doby has been tested with a cat and showed very minimal interest so we feel he would easily live with dog savvy cats
He’s great with all dogs. And he has met many, but he shown slightly more arousal around undesexed males displaying a more upright tail and stiffer body so we suggest caution in these situations, usually they end up in a tail wag and bum sniff. He has never shown any aggression but he does appear more aroused around these males.Doby doesn’t have the true Kelpie style of play looking for someone to chase and round up, he prefers just to watch others at play, sniff bums or occasionally wee on a unsuspecting human leg lol
He currently is living with 3 other dogs and has had a friendly demeanour with all of them. He is a little protective around his food, he has not reacted but just has the look of hey leave my grub alone.
Doby is fine around all dogs being given hand fed treats and will sit and take his share gently. Doby is learning the command to leave it so not to go up to every dog he meets. He will easily walk past other dog with no issues and does not show any hyperarousal issues, basically ignoring barking dogs. He is polite in his hellos but as we know not every dog likes every dog so we always suggest on leash meets. He does like dogs for company and likes to just lie and mouth play and will have a run around at times
Doby can be anxious in new situations so when he moves homes he will take a few days to settle but once comfortable Doby is an independent boy and can be left at home alone, with the company of another dog. Doby has showed no signs of destruction or chewing
He’s is also an extremely quiet boy and rarely barks unless distressed if left alone for long period alone at night he may bark or howl for a short period.
Doby being a farm dog, use to having freedom, has had a few escapes by jumping wooden fences just to go for a sniff and wee of the neighborhood so will need to have colorbond fencing or high wooden fences with no lateral braces present.
Currently after securing certain fences he has not escaped so we are fairly certain he won’t be able to scale colourbond fences. We have tested him in a property with colourbond and he did not escape.
We do suggest if people have to go out in the first few weeks of settling in leave him in a garage or laundry just till he settles Dobby is fed dry kibble. His favorite treat is chicken so we have been using this for training. He is not overly fussed on other treats
We have noticed Doby has probably has a prior injury to a back toe as he has lost the nail and part of the pad but this is an old injury which causes no issues
Doby sleeps inside on his dog bed and uses the doggy door as needed
He will also snuggle on the bed if u let him
Doby loves the car as he knows this means a trip to the park. Jumps in and out with no issues
Doby Doo is walked daily for approx 30 min to an hour Doby enjoys his walks and likes to leave his daily news all over the place. Doby is still learning to walk well on lead, can zig zag and pull slightly but is improving daily as he learns more about leash pressure. He is currently walking on a slip lead or martingale collar. He is responsive and will often check in with you on the walk. When off leash he trots along like a man on a mission but soon as he is call he comes bounding over to you.
He enjoys having a splash in water at the local park with the other dogs
Doby is given time off lead and is showing great recall so he definitely has great potential for lots of off lead time
Doby has done a few runs with his foster mum and runs well on lead and has great stamina
Doby unfortunately has no idea what toys and balls are so takes no interest in these
Doby is settled inside the house but unfortunately being predominantly and outside dog has had the habit of marking inside but this has drastically reduced since desexing but does need supervision and directed outside if seeing lifting his leg and rarely does this now after 3 weeks. He is otherwise toilet trained and never pooped inside. Doby uses a dog door within out an issues
