About Chad
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Chad
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Kelpie x Border Collie
BREED TRAITS: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children
The Border Collie was originally bred to herd sheep they are a sensitive breed that needs company. Affectionate with family and people friendly. Highly intelligent and easy to train they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation – they are not cuddly couch potatoes and need a job. They will herd anything that moves such as children, cars, bikes etc. They need an active owner, not a novice owner.
****************************************************************************
ASSETS: He’s easy-going, friendly, eager to please, active and very sweet!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Chad loves to chase after and retrieve tennis balls. He plays well with other dogs after gentle introduction and enjoys food puzzles that keep him occupied. He likes the beach and is happy to go into the water with his person. He loves to get sprayed with the garden hose and to be around his person lapping up any cuddles he can get!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Chad is great company, loves his snuggles and just wants to be near his person. He’s a very smart boy too so training should be a breeze for him. He gets really excited when you arrive home and wants your attention but soon settles again.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs and would love another dog for company in his new home. He won’t be suited to a home with a cat as he barks and chases them.
GENERAL INFO: Chad needs some training on the lead as he pulls in his excitement to get out and see everything. He is housetrained and rarely barks at home. He doesn’t appear to be scared of anything like storms and will chew things when left alone for periods of time so will need some tough toys to keep him occupied. He travels well in the car, knows a few commands and is fairly high energy. Chad has a small pink area on the end of his nose that requires sunscreen on sunny days.
ESSENTIALS for Chad:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out. He would suit an active retired home or part time worker.
** He’s an active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
** Training would be great for Chad to involve his active brain – he loves to please and being a working breed would enjoy the stimulation and challenge.
** Chad needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Chad needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
Chad could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8yrs who will be able to read his signals, or an adult only home. He would love another dog with a similar energy level to live and play with or at least have interaction with other dogs on a regular basis.
