About Dolly - 14 Month Old Cavoodle (Hold)
My name is Dolly. I’m pocket-sized (just over 4kg), golden blonde, average looks (jokes – I’m super cute!). I’m more toy poodle than cavalier – so more “oodle” than “cav”.
As a low/non shedder I’m a tad high-maintenance as I will require a regular salon and pamper session to clip and groom my hair; but the pay-off is that I don’t leave hair on the lounge or your favourite black jeans. And I won’t flair-up Auntie Doreen’s allergies when she comes to stay!
I’m very shy around hoomans. It’s been about a month since I left my beloved kennel family and I’m still acclimatising to the change of environment. Humans are great, but I’m still very shy around them. I’m trying very hard and gaining confidence every day, but it may take me a while before I can fully relax on the lounge and soak up affection. I am looking forward to becoming a lap dog when I’m brave enough.
I like it best when my foster sister is around – she gives me confidence. She’s a tolerant and calm Bluey (cattle dog). She also makes for a comfy pillow at night! We play a little sometimes and she’s great to walk and run with. I love her to bits (I’m not sure it’s reciprocated, but she is very kind to me).
I did stay with other dogs for a few days, but I could tell they found me unbearably annoying. They were old and grumpy, and they didn’t understand me. Nor were they interested in playing or running. Boooor-ring!!
Walking on a lead was quite weird initially, but I’m getting quite used to that now. I like it when my humans throw a ball for my best friend and I can chase her, chasing the ball. I LOVE to run. Despite being a little squirt, I’m very fast. I’m like a happy, bouncy little bunny rabbit when I’m running around at the park. I forget for a moment how shy I am. I just run, smile and enjoy the wind flapping in my ears.
There are some things I’m good at:
- I’ve mastered the doggy-door and use it to visit the grass-toilet every time I need to go (so far)
- For a petite little Dolly, I’m a good eater. I love my food.
- I don’t mind a car ride, although I’ve only gone short distances with my current foster family
- Swimming is my new favourite thing. I’ve only done it twice, but I think I’m a gifted swimmer (if I don’t mind saying so myself).
Ok, I’m going to be quite demanding and clear here. You see I need a very particular forever home. I will not settle for anything but the perfect fit. I am Dolly. I am delightful. And I deserve nothing but the best from here on in.
I will only be happy if there is at least one other calm, friendly and well-behaved dog in the home so I can learn from them and I can understand why they love their humans. But more than just a house mate, I’ll need to find a new 4-legged bestie – sadly my current bestie is happy here and doesn’t want to move with me.
I get really stressed if I’m left alone without my 4-legged bestie, and even worse if there’s no human to talk me down, so I’ll need my humans to watch over me most of the time.
I’m looking for humans who are going to be super-dooper patient with me as I adjust to family life and living in a home.
In summary, my perfect forever home would be:
- with the company of at least one other friendly, playful, non-aggressive and compatible dog
- where humans are home almost all of the time; at least initially
- where my forever family understand my needs, and they appreciate that I’ll take time to adjust to home life (possibly months)
- a calm and stress-free home with no loud, scary noises
- a yard big enough to have a little run that is 100% escape-proof for a teeny dog who is good at slipping through gaps - I can jump pretty high for my size
- where I’ll get at least one decent outing and exercise session a day; plus regular doggy social time
- a home that is stable and permanent for life
- a home with no small children
IMPORTANT: Dolly has had zero training and will need some time to adjust. She will require lots of patience and understanding to transition from kennel life to living inside a home. It will take time for her to build confidence around new people. Consider her suitability to your home before submitting an adoption application, and ensure everyone in the household is onboard and committed to her transition into your home and her care.
Dolly is in foster care in Mayfield, NSW. She is available for local adoption only. Dolly’s adoption fee is $1,000. She is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and microchipped.
