Dalisay is a really sweet timid girl who just wants to be your lap dog, literally! She is very affectionate and will want to be near you if you are home, hoping for a pat or a cuddle. She is very quiet in the house until someone knocks at the door, then she will bark to alert you. She is fully house trained and crate trained, will sleep happily in her crate or on her spare bed all night. She enjoys carrying around her favourite soft toy and chewing on it occasionally. She is completely non destructive with the furniture and can be trusted to be home alone; give her a pig ear or a meaty bone to chew on and she is happy for hours.
She’s a smart dog who tries to anticipate what you want her to do. I think some dedicated positive reinforcement training will make her shine. She gets in and out of the car on command, knows the different routes we take for our daily walks and waits patiently at the garden gate to get back in the yard. She does pull on the lead but walks quite happily on a halti. However, on walks, she is very reactive to strange dogs, especially big ones that bark at her through fences, so ideally needs to be walked where there are few other dogs to frighten her (and most especially unleashed ones).
She would prefer to be the only dog in your life as she is protective of her food but will be OK if she is always fed separately. If you have a resident small to medium dog she will tolerate them very well after a very slow careful introduction. She does not play with other dogs. She is not to be trusted around cats, chickens or any other small animals - Dalisay has the typical kelpie high prey drive.
She is good with older children provided they are not running around or making lots of noise; she is very scared of people near her who are running or on push bikes and scooters but is gaining more confidence and reacting less to these ‘threats’ as her time in foster care increases.
Dalisay is a smoochy affectionate dog who would make a great companion dog for an older person and will return the love you give with her whole heart and soul.
