About: This lovely and friendly girl is the perfect addition to any family, but she is best suited to someone with experience in dog ownership as she has a few quirks that we will touch base on below (see Medical)
Munchkin's gentle and agreeable nature makes her an absolute delight to be around. While she can be a tad excitable at times, her overall demeanour is social and affectionate, making her an ideal dog for any home.
One of Munchkin's greatest strengths is her adaptability! She’s able to fit right into any space, place, home or anything really!
Ideal Home: From suburbia to country living, Munchkin will feel right at home as long as she's surrounded by love. A medium to large fence with high secure fencing would be a big tick of approval!
As she loves to be around people having access to inside the home would be appreciated & would greatly benefit her.
Family: Due to her long list of endearing qualities, Munchkin is open to meet kids of all ages.
Munchkin is best suited to live with people who work from home or a household where someone will be home most of the time.
Furry Friends: We know that she previously lived with a dog, and during her dog assessment Munchkin really wanted to interact & play however, it is apparent that she does lack the manners to interact respectfully, so we will be assisting her with her manners.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Munchkin would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the direction of her new owners.
As always, we recommend that when introducing your new & existing animals that it is does slowly & that each animals boundaries are respected.
Medical: Munchkin was previously adopted but it became apparent in her new home that she suffered from separation anxiety, which is something that is not often seen in a kennel environment. Separation anxiety has varying levels and, with a little extra training & effort, it can be managed. There is an array of information out there for new owners and tips on how to ease the anxiety itself - from basic training, plug in diffusers to simple routines and self-soothing techniques. Being adopted from a shelter environment can bring on separation anxiety and it's important to note that it can be managed but the animal just needs time to settle & understand their new routine which may take months rather than days or hours.
Training & Development: She would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover your basic training & group classes to assist her in how to interact with other dogs as she has the potential to be social but lacks the right manners. Crate training would be beneficial as well to alleviate her anxiety when she is left alone, a crate can provide her a safe haven for her to be in when she is feeling overwhelmed.
When it comes to treats, Munchkin is a true connoisseur. She'll happily accept them with a gentle touch from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: When it comes to activities, Munchkin is your go-to partner for outdoor adventures. She's always up for a hike, a game of fetch, or a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood. Rest assured, she's a pro on the leash and can adapt to any walking apparatus with ease.
With medium-high energy levels, she thrives on daily exercise and mental stimulation from 20-60mins to keep her mind and body in tip-top shape.
And while she may not be the biggest fan of toys, she'll never say no to some quality one-on-one time with her favourite humans.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
