About Esmeralda STA012247
Arriving with us as a timid soul, Esmeralda was placed into foster a calm and quiet foster home where her sweet and cautious behavior is ever blossoming.
From her Foster Home
Esmeralda gets a strong 5 Star rating from us!
If it wasn’t for our existing cat being a bully & not accepting Esmeralda into ‘her’ house, we would have 100% been a foster fail because we are completely smitten with Esmeralda.
She is shy & timid but super sweet. Will take a little bit to settle in, so needs some patience & kindness from her hoomans. But if she’s in a comfortable safe space & you approach her slowly, gently & calmly then she settles quite quickly
She can be quite flighty with sudden moves or loud noises –but then once the environment settles she’ll venture out again.
After 4wks+, she’s comfortable enough to come up to the door when we’re entering, come towards us for a pat & a scratch, & if you sit on the floor with her, she’ll love a good long soft pat & scratch, especially under the chin. She does not enjoy being picked up, she would much rather her paws firmly planted on the ground.
Take it a bit slower in getting her comfortable with patting the back through to the tail – it was an incremental process with her but now she enjoys a pat all the way to the end of her fluffy tail.
She’s very food motivated! Always looking for some more! And she just hoovers it up.
We called her Squeaky – because the gorgeous little noise she makes when she wants to chat or tell you that she’s hungry or get your attention. It’s gorgeous/sweet.
We can’t say enough good things about Esmeralda. She was just a delight & we’ll miss her terribly.
Adoption details
Simply note the ID number and the cats name and visit our hostel at 200 Elder Street in Greensborough. Alternatively you can call the hostel on 8457 6500. We are currently open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm / Sat-Sun 10am-3pm.
You should bring proof of your current address and preferably photo identification such as your driving license. You can only adopt a cat for yourself we do not allow animals to leave with third parties. If you are wishing to adopt a cat as a present for someone, bring them with you as cats are individuals and bond with different people in different ways, the cat you may choose, may not choose your friend! It is also important to allocate time for adoption and we recommend you allow at least a couple of hours to get to know the cat and do the necessary paperwork.
When you visit you will get to meet the cat and as this is a very important decision for both you and the cat you choose we will want to ensure the two of you are compatible and that you understand what will be involved in taking the cat into your home.
We will want to be satisfied that you are prepared to be a responsible pet owner. Responsible pet owners at the most basic level, have their pets registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed unless they are registered breeders. They also understand the issues involved in being able to properly care and take responsibility for the welfare of their pets. Most Councils in Victoria have limits on the numbers of cats you may own without a permit. It is important to check with your Council if you already own the limit and obtain a permit for the extra cat before adoption. We will require to see your permit.
We will answer any questions you have regarding cat care and help you to obtain any support you may need.
