About Squid
Please note that any applicants applying for Squid MUST provide a detailed written application that provides to requested details outlined in the following profile in order to be considered. Applications lacking this detail will not be contacted as we have limited resources.
Meet Squid, the adorable, fluffy, intelligent and affectionate pup who is looking for his forever home! Squid is the sweetest little boy who will greet you with kisses and a waggy tail whenever you’re in sight. He is super engaged with his handler and is going to make a cracker of a dog for someone who likes training and fulfilling their dog. This boy has a lot to offer and he can’t wait to find his perfect fit.
Squid came into care with his siblings from a rural NSW facility as they were an accidental litter. Usually puppies in these situations can be a little undersocialised, but Squid and his siblings had perfect confidence and were in great health. Squid slotted into foster care perfectly and has been such a lovely puppy to have in care. Squid has not ventured into the big wide world much due to his young age and vaccination status, but on trips to safe places his confidence has not wavered and he is always friendly with everyone he meets. Squid’s new owners will need to continue his socialisation with the big wide world and ensure he gets to go on many fun adventures and try new things.
Squid has been in foster care with one sibling and a number of adult dogs ranging from very small to giant and he has interacted really well with all of them. He can be a typical annoying puppy sometimes, but for his age has great social skills and with continued socialisation should make for a wonderfully social adult dog. He will need continued socialisation with known friendly dogs preferably in settings like play dates or pack walks, rather than at dog parks with unknown dogs so he continues to have positive experiences. He can be rehomed as an only dog or with another well trained, adult dog. In either case, he will need someone home most of the time due to his young age and engaged personality.
As mentioned at the start of the profile, Squid is very switched on. Compared to his siblings, he is very human orientated and looks for instructions and only has eyes for his handler even in busier settings. We really want this natural temperament to be harnessed in a new home so his brains and drive to not get wasted and he finds naughty things to occupy himself. Squid has started his basic training and sleeps through the night in a crate, travels really well in the car and has begun place/ tether training. His leash skills are just starting and he is learning some new commands. His toilet training is still a work in progress, but if he is properly managed and taken outside regularly he is very aware where he needs to go and will not toilet in his crate. While Squid will do totally fine in a normal pet home, we really love this boy’s aptitude for life and would love to be able to find him a home where he gets more than just a walk or two around the local area as he has so much potential.
Squid’s parents were an odd pairing - his dad is a longer haired small white fluffy who looks Maltese in type. His mum is a working breed with other breeds mixed in. Due to the disparity in sizes between the parents it’s difficult for us to precisely say how big Squid will get but he was only a small 1.6kg at 6 weeks old. They are growing well, and so any home interested will have to be happy with a dog who is between small and medium size. Squid will do well in any home types such as house, unit or acreage as long as his new owners are looking for an active, intelligent and switched on puppy to do lots of fun things with. He is a bit more of a mouthy puppy (easily interrupted), but this may be more challenging for a home with young kids, so we will be looking for an adult only home or home with older kids. Due to his young age, he will be able to be integrated with animals of other species.
If you're interested in giving Squid the loving home he deserves, please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Please include plenty of details about your prior dog experience (including reference to training experience), current household members and the type of lifestyle you can offer Squid. We are looking for a home who will give Squid the opportunity to reach his full potential.
Additional information: This puppy will be adopted out under a desexing contract that will require the dog to be desexed by a given age. The cost of desexing will be included as part of the adoption fee. A $250 desexing bond will be payable in addition to the adoption fee and will be refunded upon proof of desexing. This process is further discussed with successful applicants.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
