About Ben
Melbourne Staffy / Staffy Cross Lovers!
Meet BEN, sweet goofy 11 mths old 25kg staffy cross who, 6 weeks ago, found himself on the euthanasia list, at a rural NSW Pound.
Here's what Ben's previous foster family think about him 😉👇
ℹ️
What to say about our boy Ben? AKA Lucky Boy Ben. 🥰😄
If we weren't moving overseas, we would have adopted him.
❤️ He has the biggest personality in a compact body. He is goofy, playful, sweet, cheeky, cuddly, toy obsessed *but he doesn't destroy them*, and an all round good boy. 🥰
💙 He is also incredibly smart. He's a quick learner and eager to please. He's a real dog's dog. It's hard to be succinct when describing our boy Lucky but I'll try.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Temperament: Playful, goofy, puppy energy, good sleeper, responsive, friends with other friendly well behaved 🐕 🐶
Ben was previously in foster with 3 humans and 2 older dogs: a Greyhound and a Mastiff. Ben was very respectful of them and their space. 😊
🥙🥖 Food Drive: Moderately food driven.
🧸🔫 Favourite toys: Really any kind of toy. Rope, rubber, balls, plush toys, loves a squeak. Doesn't destroy toys but likes an array of different options. Loves tug-o-war. FUN FACT - Ben has his own toy bucket! 🪣
On arrival, Ben was quite timid with strangers, especially if they are entering the house. In his previous foster home, he made great progress but still requires very slow introductions to any house guests. We don't blame him as Ben has not had the best impression of humans until he came into our care. All he needs is a bit of time to process and get comfortable with new people - at his own pace.
Best way to his heart is by offering him a yummy treat😊🙂🤪 and he'll think you are a friend in no time.
Ben had so much fun sniffing and adventuring during his most recent visit to Melbourne Botanic Gardens.
Ben's first foster family have now returned to the US and Ben is in care with one of our regular foster families - along with 4 dogs and 4 cats (the cats are very much a work in progress and we do not recommend that Ben is adopted to a home with felines at this time). Ben absolutely loves his foster family's dogs as he has his own pack of girlfriends ranging in age from 4 to 9 years old (Lab/Kelpie, Catahoula/Whippet, Staffie mix and a 3 legged, cleft lip, special needs teeny Staffy) - Ben loves them all and plays beautifully to each dogs unique style. Ben recently went away with his foster family to The Grampians and was the perfect Airbnb houseguest, receiving a 5 star review!
📋 As a typical 11 month old staffy pup, Ben is currently at the stage where he is learning some lifestyle skills like not jumping in excitement on people he knows, and to be less mouthy when playing! 🙏 Ben is such a smart boy, so we have no doubt he will pick these skills up quickly! Ben recently had some basic obedience training via a professional trainer together with his foster family in Brunswick and he will be signing up for some ongoing training with his new foster family in Woodend (the Macedon Ranges).
✅️ Dog friendly
✅️ Toilet trained
✅️ Basic Obedience & Lifestyle Skills
✅️ Crate Trained and Independent
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Leash Walking: Naturally very good on lead and very good at listening to corrections. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
🐕🐶 Other dogs: great with all other dogs, loves company *as long as they are also friendly & well socialised*
👉 As mentioned above, Ben has been socialised with other well balanced dogs of all sizes to ensure he learns good behaviour in a safe environment where he gets positive experiences with other fur friends, and he has shown that he is able to play nicely with all types of dogs (small /big, young/old).
⚠️ As a puppy that is still exploring and learning about the big human world - dog parks are not somewhere Ben will thrive. Generally speaking, we do not recommend dog parks due to safety & the level of unpredictability/lack of control over the environment & other dogs there.
Bedtime and Naps: Ben is a master cuddler and loves to sleep on the humans bed (and doesn't take up too much room). In his new foster home, Ben happily sleeps through the night in his crate without a peep. Ben also loves to nap in his crate during the day if his foster family is out and about and all the dogs are having some downtime.
Ben's Typical day:
1️⃣ 6:30AM: Wake up and breakfast, relax after breakfast (currently a mix of human grade RAW, premium wet and dry food, fruit and veggies)
2️⃣ 7:30AM: 30 min walk with some basic training
3️⃣ 9:00AM - 12 NOON: Playtime with the rest of the dogs, snoozing outside, or downtime in his crate.
4️⃣ 12:30PM: Lunchtime cuddles, playing with tug rope or napping in home office. Quiet time *all dogs especially young dogs need quiet time/switch off time as a part of their on going character development.*
5️⃣ 4:00PM: Dinner time *we avoid exercise/excessive playing after a meal to avoid Bloat which is very common in Bully breeds and can be fatal*
6️⃣ 5:00PM: 30-60 min walk and training
7️⃣ Usually around 7:00PM is quiet calm time at our house so no more running around playfully until bed time. He is happy to play with his toys, entertaining himself 🙂😊
8️⃣ Last toilet break before 9:00PM, that is Ben's bedtime. 🌙 😴
ADOPTING BEN
Ben is ready to find his forever home 🏡 and will need a very experienced family that will truly understand what it means to go at his pace when it comes to new situations and people. A family with another older /mature dog would be ideal. A family with time and space for Ben to continue his training/learning lifestyle skills etc. There will be a handover session so you can continue his training, where he is at and what he needs help most as per notes from his foster family and the trainer.
A staffy lover family is a must 😇🥰
A family that will include Ben as a part of the team, one with a soft comfy couch or bed 😝
❌️ Not Cats or Pocket Pets
✅️ Children above 10yo due to Ben's playfulness. *Children MUST be dog savvy*
✅️ Must have time to settle a new dog into the family. More importantly, time for Ben & his ongoing puppy training/exposure/development
👉 His adoption includes mandatory training to be continued accordingly just like all pups, unless adopter is an experienced dog owner with past dog training knowledge,

Adoption details
We have a mandatory house inspection
Shortlisted adopters will be contacted to arrange a meet & greet with the pet and the foster family. **Depending on our foster's availability. We welcome multiple meets, and urge all family members to attend the meet including if you have existing pet, a proper meet with your existing pet is a must.
Once contacted for a meet & greet, assuming everything goes well and you are a good match for the pet and vice versa, our adoption process is short and can be finalised pretty quick, between 7 to 14 days you can bring your newly adopted pet home.
We require all adopters to pick up their newly adopted pet, rather than us dropping the pet to you, this is to avoid abandonment trauma towards the pet.
We do follow-ups throughout the life of the animal, adopter must be available to provide updates when required, specifically during the 1st 3 months post adoption
You MUST complete our adoption form before we can arrange a meet with the pet you are applying for.
We believe every pet choose their human/home🙏 beyond ensuring each pet is matched with the right home & family that can meet their needs, we also look for signs of true connection between you & the pet you are interested in adopting.
All Adoptions including vet certificates for desex vaccination and any other relevant vet notes /history.
These documents will only be given to the confirmed adopter once an adoption agreement has been finalised.
We aim to ensure all adopted pet to never be returned, abandoned or surrendered to a pound again so we ask you, in the event that you are unable to care for the animal anymore, you must contact us to seek verbal advice.
Having a pet is a lifetime commitment so It is important that you consider who will be helping you with your newly adopted pet, should you become unavailable or need help down the track .
Some animals will require mandatory enrolment to professional training/behaviorist - this will be noted on the animal's profile & adoption agreement, we will require proof of enrolment before we are able to complete the adoption process/transfer of ownership.
