What a cutie!
Mickey’s most endearing trait is his love of life. He is full of
exuberance, and all Mickey wants to do is please his person.
Prior to joining VicDRG, Micky was an outside dog, living for 10 years
with an elderly person, who loved his veggie patch and when his elderly
person died Mickey was surrendered.
Mickey is adjusting to being an inside dog, however, after living
outside for 10 years, he still loves having his person in the garden
with him. Mickey remains hesitant about indoors – he will come in and
then dart out again as though he is going to get into trouble. He loves
to quietly sit by his person’s side, with his head on your lap or with
your hand on his body. Mickey is a happy and excitable little dog, who
loves most people, although he is a little cautious with being touched
by a stranger.
Mickey’s prior job had obviously been ‘protector of the vegetables’, as
he runs around looking up and happily chases birds out of the garden. We
can imagine his person having shooed the birds away, and Mickey having
taken this on as his responsibility.
Mickey has an abundance of enthusiasm and love of life. He is a happy
dog, who loves people. Mickey does a happy wriggle whenever his foster
carer arrives home – he sits respectfully, however, cannot contain his
happiness and shuffles along on his backside.
Mickey walks well on lead. He is energetic and will do well with two
walks a day for a reasonable period.
Mickey is a well-mannered dog, who understands to sit for his meals, go
to his bed, comes when called and will happily shake hands with you. He
is a smart boy, who learns quickly. He loves to keep you company on a
car ride and is a good passenger.
About the size of an Australian Cattle Dog, Mickey is a medium sized
dog, weighing 17 kg. Mickey is newly house trained and will wait
patiently until you take him outside.
Due to his love of people, an ideal home for Mickey will be where his
family are home most of the time. Mickey is a delight and will be the
best buddy for a person happy to have a little shadow, devotedly
following them around.
Mickey seems quite happy being the only dog but could do well with
another quiet and gentle dog for company. He does not like overly
assertive dogs or those without good social skills. He will react if
they don’t respect his space. Mickey's new home will preferably be in an
area without a lot of birds. He dislikes birds and barks
enthusiastically and chases them.
Mickey is fearful of the vet and vet appointments will require
calmatives and depending on treatment, sedation. He is better with
female vets than male.
All in all, Mickey will be a loving companion to a family prepared to
make him an active part of their lives. All Mickey wants is to please
his family and he will do anything for a little bit of TLC.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Mickey appears to have an allergic reaction to flea bites and
this will need to be carefully monitored.
Weight: 21.5kgs
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
