About Oakley - 19 Month Old Border Collie (Trial)
Hi! I’m Oakley.
A 19 month old Border Collie who loves people, learning new tricks and my squeaky toys.
My very loving pawrent gave me to DRN after having to move into a home that was too small for me.
I’ve settled into the small backyard at my foster pawrents home, but I prefer to be inside with you!
Did I mention my favourite thing is humans? I don't even mind little ones, but like any toddler, I don’t like to share my toys. So my foster pawrents make sure there’s always lots of toys to choose from and watch me while I play with my foster brother who is also 19 months old. Especially since I can jump when I get excited.
I also like treats. They’re my second favourite thing, and I’ve learnt to do lots of new things for the tasty morsels.
While I like humans, toys, treats and being inside, I don’t like loud sudden noises (storms are ok!) or dogs.
My foster pawrents are working with a professional trainer to help me be less fearful around other dogs. I’ll need ongoing training to make sure I can join you on walks in the big wide world.
I don’t like to be left alone all day because I worry I’ll be alone. I like that my foster pawrents leave me with toys and puzzles inside when they leave, but I might see your shoes and other personal items as toys and play with them while you’re gone, so it’s important to not leave things on the ground when you leave.
I’m still settling into my new surroundings and am learning all the new rules. I have learnt very quickly that it’s ok to sleep in the laundry, not on my pawrents bed, and that my bed in the family room is where I sit, not the lounge.
I have learnt to wait for my humans to use the doorway before me, so I don’t bump any little ones. I’ve also learnt that it’s ok to bark at the birds, but not at everyday noises.
I’m really good at: sit, paw, stay, come, stay on my bed, off, asking to go to the toilet if I’m inside, walking on a lead and relaxing with you.
I’m still working on: quiet, leave it, heel and having positive experiences with other dogs.
I have not been exposed to: cats, pocket pets or fireworks.
I would suit:
- Someone who doesn’t work long hours away, works from home or can take me to work with them.
- Someone who has the time to do training sessions with me a few times a week and can take me to quiet places for positive experiences in public.
- Someone who has the energy to play with me daily and the creativity to find me new puzzles and toys to work my clever brain.
- A home with NO other dogs
As I am an intelligent working breed, I would suggest you research my breed and common quirks so we can work together to live a happy life!
If you have the time, patience, energy and love to help make me the best dog I can be, I would love to meet you and your family.
