About Jacosta
Update: Jacosta has been in foster care and has become the sweetest, purriest, friendliest kitty! She has completely come out of her shell and has transformed into a silly little snugglebug. <3
Jacosta and her kittens came in of the streets after some very kind humans found them in their yard and called us to come and help.
She is still very young, but she had both an older kitten and younger kittens in tow when we found her, so it is very likely that she got pregnant as soon as she reached maturity (which is the sad fate of a lot of the female we bring in).
Jacosta is the BEST mumma!
Not only did she take amazing care of her own babies, but after they were adopted out, she continued to take other kittens under her wing. Rather than revelling in the single life, Jacosta was instantly drawn to two kittens that we took in (individually) a few weeks after hers were adopted, and she showed them just as much love and care and guidance as she did her own. They, too, have recently been adopted, and now we want to find Jacosta a forever home of her own, because this gorgeous girl definitely deserves it!!
(Our favourite photo is the one of Jacosta showing extreme tolerance of little Fievel--one of the kittens who was not hers--as he pounces all over her and refuses to leave her alone! The look she's giving us is absolutely hilarious! Luckily a second lone kitten joined them shortly thereafter, so Fievel had someone else to direct his endless kitten energy towards. :D )
Jacosta is very friendly. She loves to follow you around the house and simply watch what you are doing. She is very quiet and laid back. When she's not being your little shadow, she loves perching on a cat tree or the windowsill to watch birds and cars and whatever else might pass by.
We think she misses the outdoors a bit, and that she would be tremendously happy in a home that has a fully-enclosed outdoor space for her to enjoy. (Because she is a former street cat, we do not encourage the idea of letting her roam freely outside.)
This gorgeous little tortie gets along beautifully with other cats. She has encountered MANY during her time in care and has not so much as hissed at them. She is currently sharing a room with a new mumma (and three tiny kittens), but is allowed to roam the house freely when her foster parents are home, because she is sweet and well-behaved and simply perfect. We do not know how she is with dogs, but she is so amenable to all different cats and people and environments, we imagine she'd settle in well with a gentle pup.
This week, Jacosta's foster parents witnessed something amazing... Jacosta was playing!! This might seem like a little thing, but it's a huge milestone in street cat rescue. Cats living rough don't get to enjoy life like housecats do. Jacosta would have spent her life defending herself and her kittens, searching for food, and hiding from danger. The fact that she finally feels safe and happy enough to let her guard down and enjoy things like batting around her little plush apple is toy is HUGE!!
Jacosta is still a little timid when it comes to getting pats, but considering how terrified she was of people when she first came into care, we know she will get there eventually. She is head-shy in particular; she will often let her carers pat her body, but head scratches are a bit too much (and when she starts to feel overwhelmed, she'll politely excuse herself).
We cannot emphasise enough how delightful Jacosta is. She's an absolute angel and she would make the perfect addition to any household.
Please consider opening your home and heart to this beautiful, loving little soul.
Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!

If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
