With his friendly nature, playful personality, and willingness to learn, Paddy is ready to become your loyal BFF for life.
About: Paddy is the epitome of friendly and happy. His outgoing nature and infectious enthusiasm make him a great dog to be around.
He's not just another dog; he's a smart boy who's curious about the world and confident in his direction. Young, excitable, and playful, Paddy is also remarkably social.
He is perfect for first-time dog owners, and his adaptable nature makes him suitable for any household.
Ideal Home: Paddy will fit right in whether you live in a house or on a sprawling farm. All he asks for is a large yard with secure fencing and access to both inside and out so he can feel like part of the family.
Family: He's open to meeting kids from 13 years & up - this is due to his resource guarding (which you can read about below) . He is also compatible for people who work full-time schedules.
Furry Friends: During his dog assessment, Paddy proved himself to be a big puppy at heart. He's incredibly playful and social, displaying loose body language and confidence around other dogs.
He's eager to engage and is always up for play time. As always, we recommend that when introducing your new & existing animals that it is does slowly & that each animals boundaries are respected.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Paddy would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the direction of his new owners.
Training & Development: Paddy is still learning his name, although he already knows commands like 'sit' and 'stay'. With a little post-adoption training, including basic commands and group classes to maintain his social skills, Paddy will be the perfect boy for dog-friendly cafes or social events.
He does however exhibit resource guarding behaviour around his food, which can be addressed with proper training and management. This behaviour does not extend to treats, he is food motivated, which will make training that little bit easier. Until then, it would be best if he ate his dinner without interruption.
He may occasionally jump up, but he's incredibly gentle and responds well to correction.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Paddy loves toys, especially soft ones. His energy levels are medium-high, so he'll thrive with regular walks and exercise ranging from 30 to 60 minutes per day. He's an absolute dream to walk on a lead with minimal issues.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
