About Mellow
Hi! I’m Mellow and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.
** I AM DEAF **
Size: Medium
Weight: 23.5kg
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MELLOW
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/rLdvAefQkPEfWJj66
NOTE: You are unable to meet Mellow until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Mellow in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
• DEAF DOG EXPERIENCE IS A MUST
• Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
• Further training with basic doggie manners
• To be allowed inside with my family
• A doggie playmate would be great, if not then lots of socialising with other dogs
• A cat may be ok with a slow introduction.
• I like both friendly male and female dogs
• Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
• Lots of toys and mental stimulation
• A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
• A family who promise to keep me well groomed and brush me regularly so I’m always looking and feeling my best
• Lots of love and attention
• No young children as when I'm excited I get very bouncy and mouthy and young children may accidentally scare me because I am deaf. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok.
• TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING. It's ESSENTIAL I receive training in all aspects of my life so I can be the best dog I can be when I'm older.
Things that I don’t want in my new home:
• To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
• Not to be allowed inside with my family
• Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
• Small children due to being mouthy & bouncy
• No young children as they may accidently scare me because I’m deaf. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok
My best features:
• Very playful
• Wiggle butt
• I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
• Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs
• Exuberant & full of beans
Where I need to improve / Training required:
• I will require full basic training as I've had no training experience yet. As I am deaf, training is more difficult and it appears I’ve had no experience so far.
• I can be a bit bouncy -training should stop this
• I can be strong on the lead - training and walking me in a halti or harness may stop this
• I may show signs of anxiety when I'm left alone in the backyard. Leaving me some enrichment toys/treats may help this.
• I appear to be quiet vocal at times when left alone - a family who has a lot of time for me, allow me indoors and leave me with lots of mental enrichment when home alone is recommended
Medical notes
I am deaf, I will require a family that will be able to provide me with a safe home where I feel comfortable. It appears that I have had no training and will need a family that is familiar with deaf dogs or are able to seek out professional help.
