Meet Astra, a sweet and gentle soul who is seeking a patient and understanding family to call her own.
About: Astra is best suited to someone who has experience with dogs, particularly those with special behaviour traits. She may experience mild separation anxiety, so having a caregiver who understands her needs is essential.
Astra's shy demeanour masks a friendly and curious personality. With patience and love, she will blossom into a loyal and affectionate girl, ready to share many happy moments by your side.
Ideal Home: Astra would thrive in various living situations, whether it's a townhouse, house, or even a farm, as long as there's a medium to large yard with secure fencing.
She requires a calm and quiet environment, as loud noises can be overwhelming for her.
As she really enjoys being around people it’s beneficial for her to have access to inside as well as outside the home so she can get the best of both worlds.
Family: This lovely girl is open to meeting older children aged 12 years and up. Their understanding and respect for her timidity will allow her to blossom at her own pace.
Astra would also be a great fit for individuals who work part-time or from home, providing her with the companionship she craves.
Furry Friends: During her assessments, Astra showed little interest in playing but is eager to connect with her human companions. She may need some time to build confidence around other dogs, so supervised, short interactions are ideal.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Astra would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets – this would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
As always, we recommend that when introducing your new & existing animals that it is does slowly & that each animals boundaries are respected.
Training and Development: Astra would benefit from post-adoption training such as crate training to give her somewhere safe when she is alone & training at home to cover your basics. Additionally, one on one with a professional to tackle her anxieties would also be a good idea.
She is still learning her name but knows basic commands like "sit". She is motivated by treats & will take them gently from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Her energy levels are moderate, and she would benefit from walks and exercise lasting 20-30 minutes per day. On walks, Astra walks well on a lead but may get excited. Using a harness and lead is recommended for her comfort and safety.
While she may not show much interest in toys, Astra thrives on human interaction and affection.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
