Meet Rupert, a smart & highly trainable, eager beaver!
About: Rupert thrives in households with experienced dog owners who understand his needs.
His vibrant personality makes him a perfect fit for busy and lively households, where he can be the devoted friend to active individuals or families who love the great outdoors.
Rupert is an independent soul who finds joy in his surroundings and delights in engaging with those around him.
Ideal Home: Rupert is best suited to a house or a farm/acreage with a large yard & high secure fencing & he would love the option to be inside with his family as well as access outside to stretch his legs & soak up sun.
Family: While Rupert adores human company, he's best suited to households with children aged 10 and up. His exuberant puppy-like behaviour means he might be a bit too enthusiastic for younger kids, but with the right guidance and training, he'll be a wonderful playmate and companion.
Whether you work full-time or part-time, Rupert will happily adapt to your schedule.
Furry Friends: During his dog assessment Rupert showed little interest in the beginning, he was more focused on his handler. However as the assessment went on he play bowed & showed interest but was conflicted between the other dog & his handler. This could be from lack of socialisation ins his previous home. For now we would say he is best as only dog but we will work with him on his social skills with time & training we see him being social.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Rupert would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets – this would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training and Development: Rupert is eager to learn and would benefit from post-adoption training sessions to polish his manners. Whether it's basic obedience at home or one-on-one sessions with a professional, Rupert is ready to soak up all the knowledge and skills he can. Group classes would also help him develop his social skills with other dogs.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: This energetic boy thrives on daily walks, play or exercise lasting 30 to 60 minutes to keep him happy and healthy.
Although he might pull a little on the leash, he's already showing improvement and is eager to please, especially when there are treats involved!
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface.
