Meet Reagan, a smart and hard-working shepherd, looking for her forever home!
About: Although Reagan can be a little nervous at first, she is ultimately friendly and warms up quickly once she feels comfortable. Her playful and excitable nature shines through once she relaxes. However, her shepherd lineage means she's naturally alert and may exhibit some anxious behaviours, especially in new situations.
With her slight timidity and anxious tendencies, Reagan would flourish in a home with experienced dog owners or those familiar with the shepherd breed.
Reagan is a special girl who thrives in a calm and quiet environment, making her the perfect dog for someone who understands her gentle nature.
Ideal Home: Reagan would thrive in a home with a large yard and secure fencing, preferably in a house or rural setting where she can explore freely.
She enjoys having the option to move between indoors and outdoors to maintain her bond with her new family.
Family: Reagan is open to meeting children aged 10 years and up, this is due to her size and exuberance, she may inadvertently knock over smaller kids when she gets excited. Therefore, a home with older children would be most suitable for her.
Furry Friends: During her dog assessment, it became apparent that Reagan hasn't had much interaction with other dogs, leading to some uncertainty in social situations.
However, with patient socialisation and desensitisation, she has the potential to interact well with other dogs in the future and we are very committed to helping Reagan progress and develop her social skills.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Reagan would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets – this would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training and Development: Post-adoption training, including basic obedience and socialisation, will be essential for Reagan's continued development. Group classes or one-on-one sessions with a professional trainer would help her overcome obstacles such as stranger danger and nervousness in unfamiliar environments.
She's eager to learn and responds well to verbal and hand cues, showing off her remarkable intelligence.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: She's an ideal match for active individuals or families who love spending time outdoors and engaging in activities. Her energy levels are high, so she'll benefit from daily exercise and walks lasting 60 minutes or more. While Reagan may need some leash training to curb her pulling, she walks well on a martingale and lead.
Reagan enjoys treats and loves all kinds of toys, particularly rope toys and plush toys.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface.
