Meet Keno, a sweet but shy girl waiting for the perfect match to bring out her full potential.
About: While she may be a bit reserved at first, Keno has a heart of gold and is ready to bloom with the right family by her side.
Keno thrives in households where her owners have previous dog experience, understanding the patience and love required to help her build confidence.
Her adaptable nature makes her suitable for various living situations, but a quieter home may help her overcome her lack of confidence.
While Keno may be a bit nervous around strangers initially, her friendly and happy demeanour shines through once she feels comfortable. She may bark at first, but underneath her cautious exterior lies a loving and affectionate girl.
Ideal Home: Keno would thrive in a home with a medium to large yard, securely fenced to ensure her safety. She enjoys having the freedom to roam both indoors and outdoors, exploring her surroundings and spending quality time with her family.
Family: When it comes to children, Keno is open to meeting kids aged 10 years and up. She appreciates the space they provide as she continues to learn and grow into her own.
Additionally, she's perfectly content living with people who work part-time.
Furry Friends: She is best to be the only dog currently. This may be due to her lack of confidence. During her dog assessment when meeting the other dog she showed no interest until the other dog moved closer, it was then we saw her show clear signs of being uncomfortable.
We will be working with her to boost her confidence as well as desensitise her to other dogs which may see her become more social with dogs, but, she may also just prefer being the only dog.
Due to her high prey drive, she wouldn't be suitable for households with cats or small pets.
Training and Development: Keno would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to keep basic manners in check, or one on one with a professional to assist with her confidence building.
Though still learning her name, Keno already knows commands like 'sit' and 'shake,' showing her willingness to learn. While she may jump up occasionally, she's responding well to training and is eager to improve her manners.
This cutie is food motivated and enjoys treats, taking them gently from your hand.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: This lovely girl is a great fit for active individuals or families who enjoy spending time outdoors. She'll happily accompany you on adventures and outdoor activities, soaking up the fresh air and bonding with her new family.
With medium to high energy levels, Keno benefits from daily exercise and walks ranging from 20 to 60 minutes to keep her body and mind healthy. She's playful, curious, and excitable, always eager to engage in activities with her loved ones.
She also loves toys, especially squeaky ones, which provide endless entertainment and enrichment.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface.
