Meet Gaia, a gentle and sweet girl seeking her forever home!
About: Gaia is the perfect fit for both first-time dog owners and experienced handlers alike. Her easy-going nature makes her adaptable to various household dynamics, however Gaia would thrive in a quiet home.
Gaia's curiosity and social nature shines through during her daily interactions, although she may sometimes seem a bit aloof, with a little encouragement, she's sure to blossom into a confident girl - during this time all that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
As she settles into her new home and gains confidence, Gaia could become the perfect dog for outings to dog-friendly cafes or social events.
Overall, she's a sweet and agreeable girl who's just waiting for the right family to share her love.
Ideal Home: Gaia is versatile when it comes to living arrangements, whether it's a townhouse, house, or sprawling farm. Secure fencing is a must to ensure her safety and freedom to explore.
As Gaia is a friendly & affectionate dog, she would love to have free access to inside the home as well as out so she can get the best of both worlds & have the option to be with her family.
Family: Despite her initial shyness, Gaia is open to meeting children of all ages and is very accepting of handling & human interaction. She can be a little aloof at times, & definitely has an independent streak, but she will always circle back for a pat & good girl praises.
This girl doesn't require constant attention and would be a great match for those who work a full-time schedule.
Furry Friends: During her interactions with other dogs, Gaia displays playful and social behaviour, indicating her desire to make dog friends. However, she may need some time and support to build her confidence in this field.
To best support her she would be best as the only dog in the house (for now) - the ACF staff are committed to her socialisation progress & we are confident that with time & consistency she will be able to live with another dog.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Gaia would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets – this would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Work: She would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover your basics & to keep her mind active, or group classes to assist with her continued socialisation development & confidence building.
While not particularly food motivated, Gaia does take treats gently from your hand when she is persuaded by them – we are yet to figure out her favourite though.
Gaia is still learning her name but already knows the command "sit."
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: With moderate energy levels, Gaia benefits from daily walks or exercise sessions ranging from 30 to 60 minutes.
She enjoys outdoor adventures, making her an ideal match for active individuals or families who love spending time outside.
While she walks well on a lead, she may pull towards interesting sights and sounds, so a flat collar or martingale is recommended. She really enjoys walks where she gets to sniff & take in all of the smells the world has to offer.
She may not be enthusiastic about toys yet, but plush toys and tennis balls catch her eye, suggesting her interest may grow as her confidence does.
Post-Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks may surface.
