About Adelaide
If perfection could be embodied in a dog Adelaide would be it! This gorgeous girl found herself at the top of the euthanasia list in a rural pound, thankfully we had a carer who just couldn’t resist her kind eyes and stunning colours so she made it to safety just in the nick of time.
Whilst sitting at a decent size of just a touch over 30kg, due to her relaxed and easy going nature she feels more liked a medium sized dog. Adelaide has impeccable house manners and is calm, quiet and snuggly inside. She is ALWAYS up for some couch snuggles, but will also take herself off to her bed to relax if you are busy or have guests over. Speaking of guests- she loves everyone she meets and is always extremely friendly and gentle with visitors to the home. She is fantastic with the carers young grandchild and the noise that comes with children doesn’t phase her at all.
She has been enjoying familiarising herself with the big smoke. For a country dog, she has taken it all in her stride and enjoys her daily outings a lot. She is confident and calm in new environments and has been enjoying both street walks and some longer bush walks where she has shown to be quite agile through narrow rocky areas. She has enough energy to keep up with whatever fun activities you have in store, but doesn’t need big outings every day. If you are busy some days, she will be just fine with a daily walk, as long as you make up for it with some fun adventures on the weekend! This girl would absolutely love a family who will take her along with them to new and exciting places like the beach, cafes, pubs or camping.
Adelaide is currently in care as an only dog, but has been very social with all dogs she has met out and about. If a dog reacts negatively to her, she just slides behind her carer looking for reassurance. She has fantastic body language and has enjoyed spending time with both big and small dogs. She will be fine as an only dog or with other resident dogs as she is adaptable and social. Her new family will need to provide her with opportunities to socialise with other dogs, preferably in the form of play dates and social walks rather than dog parks where there is a lot of unpredictability. Whilst she hasn’t lived with cats, she was kennelled at the pound next to the cat runs where she would gently lie next to them all day and showed no interest in chasing them, so we feel she would be integrated into a home with dog savvy cats as long as owners were confident in correct introductions.
Adelaide is a smart cookie and has already learnt a lot of new skills in care. She is crate trained, sleeps in a crate without a peep, and knows some basic commands. She walks well on leash and is completely toilet trained. The only area she needs further work on is being left home completely alone. She isn’t destructive, but did howl and bark a bit when she arrived into care. She is improving daily with recent reports of just one bark when her carers went out and then she went quiet, but a new owner should expect to settle her in properly so she gets comfortable being left home alone again. Either way, Adelaide is just such a lover of people we feel after her rough start to life she deserves a home with people home more often than not so she can enjoy spending lots of quality time with her family. She is food motivated which makes training a breeze and she has even started showing a keen interest in toys which bewildered her at first.
Adelaide has an A+ report card from her foster carers and is going to make an absolutely exceptional addition to a lucky family. She has the sweetest nature and whoever meets her will fall head over heels in love with her. Adelaide will require a family that will allow her inside as a member of the family, provided a good quality diet, taken on lots of fun adventures and provided a place to sleep inside of a night.
If you are interesting in making Adelaide a permanent member of your family, then fill out an adoption enquiry form found on our Fetching Dogs website and please include plenty of information about your previous dog experience and the type of lifestyle Adelaide can look forward to having with you. Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
