NAME: Letty

BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound.

BREED: American Staffordshire Terrie
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.

ASSETS: Affectionate, devoted, friendly, laidback, obedient, and very sweet! She’s a very loving girl who has a huge amount of potential as well as a ton of love to give to her new family.

FAVOURITE THINGS Letty loves life! She loves to go for rides in the car and just generally be around her family. She’s also a huge fan of cuddles.

ENDEARING FEATURES: She has a beautiful personality and energy about her and her floppy ears are just the cutest. She also has a very expressive face and ‘smiles’ when she’s happy.

OTHER ANIMALS: Letty loves other dogs but can get a bit excited when meeting new dogs so will need gentle introductions on a lead. Once introductions are over she loves to play with other dogs and enjoys their company. She is great with cats and the cat in her foster home loves Letty and will rub up against her. Letty has also been around horses and is very well behaved sometimes tagging along with a morning hack.

GENERAL INFO: Letty walks nicely on her lead and is mostly housetrained although does have the odd accident if left alone for a long period of time. She is crate trained and knows some commands. She doesn’t like storms and likes to be inside on the couch if there is one in the area. She barks to get attention but is otherwise a quiet and well-behaved girl. Letty has been fostered with children and is very gentle. She was used for breeding before coming to SAFE Esperance so now deserves a comfortable and loving home.

Letty arrived with irritated skin but after treatment everything has settled down. She appears to have a sensitivity to pollens/grasses so if she can be allowed in the home to minimise her contact with grass this would be most beneficial and help to control any irritation.

ESSENTIALS for Letty:

** A loving home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take her out with them.

** Letty could live with another friendly dog but if rehomed as an only dog she’d love to meet doggy friends for regular play dates out of the house. She doesn’t like people approaching her when she’s eating and will eat faster as she thinks it’s going to be taken away.

** An owner who will continue to put some training in to expand her range of commands and help her to bond.

** She needs good daily exercise and would enjoy a good walk a day, as she loves to get out and about.

** Letty needs a high fenced, secure yard.

** Letty loves to be with her people and be involved in family activities so needs to be allowed inside the home and to sleep inside at night.

Letty could live with gentle dog-savvy children over 6 years of age who will treat her respectfully and give her space when she needs her down time.
