Copper is a Kelpie x Staffy, with the Kelpie colouring but the stockier Staffy build. He's a smart, trainable young dog who loves his foster carer and is never far from her side.
Copper is a great best buddy who is looking for a home to set him some rules and stick to them. At one year old he is in the equivalent of his teenage years, and he can have a bit of a stubborn/defensive streak, so we feel some formal obedience classes would be really beneficial to him to provide him with the confidence and manners that training and boundaries will bring. That amazing Kelpie herding instinct can be seen at times. Copper really is the sweetest dog; he just needs a bit of positive guidance to be his best self.
Copper gets very excited when he sees other dogs out and about as he sees every one as a potential friend: hopefully his new owners will help him learn some doggy manners and to not try to run up other pooches. Copper lives with another medium sized, male dog with whom he gets along well although he did need a long, supervised introduction to stop him jumping all over his new mate! Copper is clever and quick to learn and we are very hopeful with some training and consistency he will mature into a wonderful, loyal dog.
We don’t know how Copper is with children and for that reason we would prefer to rehome him into a household without little children, although high school age and up should be fine.
Copper is good in the car. He loves his daily exercise and is good on lead (except when he sees other dogs as above), and will thrive with a good daily run/walk.
Copper considers himself your best lounge buddy and likes nothing better than a good snuggle watching the TV. He has excellent manners in the house; is not noisy or destructive and is toilet trained. Initially Copper did show some fear of males but this seems to have disappeared since he has been in care.
Copper can be left at home without you for a few hours at a time, especially if he has doggy company. His ideal canine companion would be a calm, tolerant dog who will put up with a bit of exuberant puppy nonsense without losing his/her temper.
In summary if you put in a bit of time with this boy (and ideally are quite dog savvy) you will reap the rewards of his mostly adorable nature!

ADOPTION NOTES
Our adoption process for the successful applicant includes a meet and greet, (including your own dog if applicable), a home check (or photos of your yard and fencing to be supplied to us if not local), and a two week trial period to ensure your chosen dog is the right fit for your home.
All adoption fees must be deposited into our SAFE Bunbury bank account in full before adoption trial starts (we cannot accept cash). The Adoption Agreement will be emailed to the selected applicant in advance of meeting your chosen dog.
After the adoption trial period has been completed we arrange transfer of ownership of the dog's microchip to the new owner, and email out the vet records.
