About Brady -- Foster home needed
*** Could you foster this beautiful, easy boy so he no longer has to live in a cold pen at our shelter? Please read on to see if your home is suitable, if so we'd love to hear from you! Our contact details are at the bottom of this profile.
🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Handsome young Brady is a happy boy who loves people and is a really easy dog. He's always up for a cuddle, walk, or a throw of his favourite toys and has a relaxed, easy to work with nature. He's currently living in a pen at our shelter and is always accepting when his carer is busy with other dogs, just patiently waiting his turn and happy to amuse himself.
What's his personality like?
He loves a good cuddle and if you're the type of pawrent who lets their doggo on the hooman bed, you're in for good spoon! He loves toys and will goofily play fetch, either with you or himself :) His ideal day includes a basic walk and sniff session, a few throws of his fav toy or some rough and tumble with you in the backyard, a yummy dinner and evening snuggles on the couch 💙 He's always relaxed, always quiet except when someone walks past the property and he gives a few protective barks, and always well behaved and eager to please.
What sort of family is he best with?
He'll be happy with an adult couple, family with grown-up kids, or solo retiree. While he loves younger kids and is very good with them he can be a bit possessive over his cherished toys and food, so interactions with children should be controlled if treats and toys are involved.
Can he be left alone on workdays?
He doesn't have separation anxiety, however he has the typical staffy love of people and although he'd cope, he'd be a little lonely by himself 40+ hours a week. So a home where at least one pawrent works part-time or from home would be great for this super chill guy, but if you don't have that flexibility we'd still like to hear from you :)
What's he like with other dogs?
He was raised around other dogs in a breeding setting and was very good with them. However, they were either adult females or his puppies and he hasn't had much socialization outside of that. He would be great as an only dog but could live comfortably with, and be a good friend to, a dog who's submissive and will let him lead, won't try to eat his food, and will ignore him when he wants first dibs of a new toy.
What about cats?
He's too excited by cats to be safe with them.
Does he need training?
He's already great with obedience and is very easy to walk on lead, not pully like many dogs. But he'll benefit from a good obedience and socialization class to help him be the best he can be and create a wonderful partnership between he and you, one of clear communication and predictable expectations which everyone should strive for with a new rescue dog 🥰
Brady is waiting patiently for his forever home but is getting a bit down at still being in a pen 6 months after coming to us, we just haven't been getting any interest in him which we can't understand as he's an amazing boy 😳 If you have a bit of experience with staffies and are seeking a loving, chill companion either to adopt or foster, please contact us. Brady is going to make someone very happy, he just needs to be given a chance. We're sure when you meet him you'll fall in love 😊🦮🐾 Please text Jo 0419 124 437 to arrange a phone chat.
Medical notes
Like many staffies Brady has a bit of sensitive skin on his belly and this will be itchy and cause him discomfort if he's given cheap, supermarket food. We are finding this easily managed with a 'sensitive skin' kibble and many brands cater for this such as Glow and Advance, to the higher brands like Hills, Royal Canin, Black Hawk and Ivory Coat. Buying these brands in large bags with free delivery online is by far the most cost to effective way to give your dog quality food.
Raw food might also be a good option for Brady, and things like fish oil can be added (although with the sensitive skin kibble we are not needing to add anything else).
VeganPet dog kibble is also a highly clean and scientifically designed food that is good for dogs with sensitivities.

💕 ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION
As well as working with dogs, Sunny Days runs Victoria's only specialised stray cat rehab facility on a rural property in Avalon, Vic. Our rehab centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is in constant demand due to the sheer number of cats born wild, and dogs no longer wanted.
Despite this demand, we have no source of ongoing funding. Unlike public pounds who enter into contracts with local councils to be the facility responsible for housing lost animals in that municipality, volunteer-run pounds like ours do not have the option to partner with a government organisation and have the running of the shelter funded - we are left to fund our work through our own pockets and community donations. Please see below for lots of secure ways you can donate to support our work.
💕 HOW YOU CAN HELP
We receive adoption fees, however our animals are adopted out less frequently than happens at other shelters and rescue organisations as our animals are with us for extended periods of rehabilitation. We rely on donations not only to help with immediate vet care when animals first come to us but also to keep them fed, parasite treated, vaccinated regularly and treated for illness or injury. You can donate to support our work by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page or via the alternate options below.

💕 OUR WORK WITH CATS
We take in full cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, ophan kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats. Cats are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned; we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats trapped are true strays as opposed to owned. We don't give cats deadlines to be socialised by or they'll be euthanised, we provide sanctuary for them for as long as they need.
💕 OUR WORK WITH DOGS
We take in dogs from community surrenders, owned arranged euthanasia which vets have intervened on, and greyhounds retired from or not suitable for racing. Most of our dogs are with us for an extended period of time to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption, and have been assessed by professional dog trainers if not worked with extensively. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour and unlimited, 24 hour support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles.
