About Audrey
Hello, my name is Audrey. I’ve already been through quite a few homes now in my short time on this earth, so this time I’m really hoping to find “the one”. If you answer yes to all of these it could be you! Are you active, caring, patient, either experienced with dogs or willing to work with a trainer, a single person or couple who *both* answered yes to all of the above? If you didn’t answer yes to all of those, stop reading now. If you did…
I am a super active, affectionate girl. I absolutely adore humans, anyone willing to give me a pat. If you allow it, I will spend every second by your side. Whatever you’re doing, I want to be there with you—whether it’s going out for a walk or staying in to watch some TV.
I am toilet trained to perfection. Absolutely no accidents to date which my foster carers are pretty happy about. They both work full time, and sometimes they leave me inside for long periods of time and I just take naps and wait for them. I’m used to being alone although I’d much rather you never left me! I don’t have any destructive or annoying habits. I have only recently started to play with toys—My foster carers say this is good for my development, and would love you to help me continue this. I really only bark when someone is super close by or the cat next door is in my sight. But mostly, I just hang in the sun and wait for them to come home and give me pats.
That said, I have some quirks of my own that you need to be prepared for.
I take a while to trust as I keep getting passed around no matter how loving I am. It may take a few weeks for me to get comfortable with you. I am not social with other dogs or cats and can be reactive meeting other dogs. My foster carers are working on this and we have been having some success meeting dogs on leash at a controlled distance. This is going to require an ongoing commitment to training. I probably won’t ever be cat-friendly, but some doggo friends could be possible if you’ll help me the right way.
I’m looking for a home that understands I’m still learning and will be patient and supportive during this journey. Unless you’re experienced in dog training, you may need a professional to show you how to build my confidence and give me reassurance, without coddling me. I need someone that can convince me I’m home, that won’t give up on me, and won’t treat me like just another pretty face or a ‘handbag dog’.
From SAFE: Because Audrey can take a while to establish trust, we would prefer she go to a ‘foster to adopt’ home. That means someone who is keen to adopt her, but is willing to demonstrate to us for at least 4 weeks that they’re capable of providing the type of home she needs. Her current foster carers would be available for advice and/or regular visits/video calls (depending on distance). If we see success, but you feel more time is needed, the 4 weeks is negotiable for extension. During Audrey’s foster to adopt time with you she would not be advertised for adoption. Foster carers pay for food/lodging, while SAFE covers any vet costs. This will still be true for Audrey, however SAFE will not be able to pay for additional training. The current foster carers have had professional assistance they can pass on, but should you need additional help from a trainer this will be at your expense.
If Audrey sounds like the girl for you, please submit an application and explain to us why we should choose you.
