Tempest

Tempest is a magical little kitten who is sure to bring joy to any family who adopts her.

Have you had a bad day? Tempest will come to your rescue and try to cheer you up with all of her silly antics. And if that doesn't work, she curl up in your arms and use her sweet purr to chase your worries away.

As you probably noticed in her photo, Tempest had to have one of her eyes removed; her remaining eye has very limited vision. Don't think for a second that this holds her back, though, because you'd never know it by the way she runs up and down the cat tree like a sprightly little spider monkey (it's her favourite thing to do)!

Tempest's eyes should not be seen as an impairment, but rather they should serve as a testament to just how fierce and resilient she is.

TEMPEST'S SURVIVAL STORY:

When we were called out to trap Tempest and her siblings, we were not prepared for what we would find.

What we expected to be a small family of mums and kittens living in someone's backyard turned out to be one of the worst cases of neglect that we have seen.

Tempest and her siblings were suffering tremendously. Two of them passed away very shortly after coming into care; we were simply too late to save them.
The rest clung to life.

They all had a severe case of the flu, which had progressed to pneumonia in some.
Their eyes were ravaged by conjunctivitis, some (like Tempest's) were damaged beyond repair.
They had the worst flea infestation we have probably ever seen, and the blood loss had rendered them anaemic.
They were extremely malnourished; their poor mumma was was also starving and unable to produce a sufficient amount of milk for them.
They had bellies full of worms, eating them alive from the inside and stealing whatever scare nutrients the kittens were getting.
They were dehydrated to the point of needing fluid injections every few hours.
They were swimming from nose to tail with ringworm, covered in fungal lesions and missing huge patches of fur.

Every kitten needed intensive medical intervention. They needed baths, injections, oral medications, and topical treatments. They had to be weighed and have their temperatures taken daily. They were regularly poked and prodded and forced to endure uncomfortable and undignified procedures. Some of them grew used to be handled; other receded even further into their shells, associating human touch with pain and discomfort.

Luckily, despite some very close calls and many sleepless nights, all of them pulled through.

Tempest is a gorgeous girl who has been through so much in her short little life. But she overcame every obstacle and fought through every battle, and we are so happy to announce that she's finally up for adoption!

The rest of her siblings have already found their forever homes, but her adoption was delayed because she required specialty surgery and treatment. Being the lucky last kitten is not bringing her down, though; she knows the perfect family is out there waiting for her, and she is finally ready to meet them!
