About Winston
This is Winston, a 14 month old Great Dane.
He is a very regretful rehome but his exuberance around the young children has resulted in things becoming unsafe and a family having to be in separate areas is no life for a Great Dane.
Winston adores his family but as he’s become an adolescent, his attachment to mum has increased. Sadly, it’s not been able to be addressed and is too difficult/unsafe to manage with tiny humans between.
As you can see from his pictures, he has a very full life with lots of experiences. He loves being with the family and has been exposed to kids, chickens, horses, other dogs and lives with a cat. He wants to be friends with the cat but as with most things concerning Winston, he’s too much and not clear yet on the boundaries needed to play safely. A balance can be maintained inside the house but outside he can’t help himself and chases her.
Winston is a very good-natured dog but needs of a lot of guidance over the next 12 months to grow into a gentleman with a clear understanding of necessary boundaries. He’s made some great headway in this area but the obsession with mum results in huge anxiety at the thought of her leaving which has any and all training out the window at these times.
When Winston is left alone during the day he does cope if he’s had a good walk in the morning. He can still help himself to items that don’t belong to him – so be warned! He has started to grow out of digging in the garden.
Winston can walk nicely on lead but can still be a little pully at times. He is a dog that you can take everywhere, he loves the café scene and being out with people and other dogs. We just have to remember he is still a baby, although a giant one and so learning on the go.
For obvious reasons, we won’t be placing Winston in a home with small children. He needs to be the one focus for a little while until he matures. This doesn’t mean he can’t be around small children safely, just not in the same everyday household.
Winston will wear you like a glove if you let him. He truly adores his people and is incredibly affectionate. He is used to 2 walks a day and has more than enough energy for that and more if you have the time.
As are almost all Great Danes, Winston is an inside/outside dog. He’s house trained and for the most part an absolute joy and pleasure to have in the home. There is an off switch and some glimpses of a couch potato at times.
If you’re looking for a big puppy bundle of energy to work with and create the best canine mate you could ever hope for, please get in touch.
