The Beautiful Maremma Apollo now seeks his forever home
With those stunning eyes and gorgeous thick white coat, how can you not fall in love with our amazing boy? At 35 kilos Apollo is not a huge size Maremma but he does have a huge heart and loves humans
This gorgeous boy is a worker all the way
Apollo or as I affectionately call him “ Polo” has been with us in rescue for some 3 years now while we worked with him to become great with not only people but Livestock as well and he has been an absolute star to train.
Apollo is currently in work and has been in charge of 8 sheep and 8 chickens ( all free ranging) 24/7 and has taken to it like a duck to water. He will happily laze around under a tree with his sheep or if they are off grazing he isn't too far away keeping a watchful eye to ensure their wellbeing. When the sheep come out for shearing feet, trims etc Apollo will happily sit back and watch but give them all a good sniff over and inspection when they return to ensure they are ok.. It's really sweet
Apollo has been great with other dogs but he has always worked alone
He gets on well with other dogs but does struggle with food aggression with other animals and this also will present itself if the chooks or sheep come over to checkout what is in his bowl and he will chase them off in annoyance Our livestock have learnt to leave him alone at dinner time lol
Apollo has no issues in thunder or storms and will continue to work in all weather without missing a beat
He has been professionally groomed every 6 months since in care so is well versed in the drill but is still very sensitive around feet grooming . He enjoys a good brush and will happily sit in the paddock while I take a chair out in the sun to groom him over
Apollo does not like the lead very much and really dislikes being removed from his paddock away from his stock . When if taken him to the vets for checkup etc he will leave under sufferance lol but is very well behaved in the car and at the vet
He is such a happy boy and will greet you at the gate with a smiling face and a wagging tail
Obviously being a Maremma he does bark and things that don't belong around his paddock and as true to breed at night time he is “On Point” for any predators that may try to venture over or near. He does respond well when being asked to settle .
For Apollo we are seeking a property home to allow him to continue his great work doing what he was bred to do as we have put years of training into him for this purpose
We are seeking a very secure fenced area where he has shade and shelter and stock to protect
Standard farm post and wire fencing is not adequate for any working dog and those who are LiveStock Guardian savvy will fully understand what fencing is required for safety of these breeds
We are NOT seeking him to be a pet dog as this is NOT what I have spent years preparing him for so please do not apply if you are not prepared to put him into work
