About Koda
Assist Rehome
Dakota aka “Koda”
Koda is a 5-year-old pure bread Siberian husky. She will be 6 years old this May.
She has a soft gentle temperament with humans specifically teenagers and adults. Koda has completed puppy preschool and obedience level 1.
Koda has recall, knows sit, stay, wait, come, drop, rollover, walks well on the lead. She knows how to travel in the back of a Ute and is trained to lay in a dog hammock on the back seat of a car. She is a very placid husky and tends to spend the days laying on the patio. She enjoys her afternoon and morning walk. Unlike other husky’s, we have never had her bark or howl. She has been boarded in a dog hotel when we have gone away for a weekend and tolerated this well.
She does not appear to have separation anxiety.
Koda has been surrendered on 2 previous occasions, both through YAPS.
Her most recent owners (us) were given limited history of her past adoptions and were told one of them occurred due to a dog fight.
We have not found her to ever show her teeth to other dogs, and she does not act aggressively towards other dogs when walking on a lead. She may be dog selective, and it would be recommended to not let her play off lead at a dog park due to this, rather let her have interactions in small doses whilst on the lead. We have done this in our 3 years with her and have not had any problems. She can be prone to jealousy when owners are paying attention to certain other animals, again situation and pet dependent and happens rarely.
Koda is an escape artist, primarily via digging. It is important for her new home to have very secure fencing and we have found the electric perimeter fence lines work well for her, she is trained in this and understands the collar. She needs daily attention and regular walks at least once per day or may tend to act out and this is when she is most likely to dig or attempt an escape. Typically, with regular daily walks and interaction she has no interest in digging or escaping.
Koda tends to get excited and jump up at children, we have tried our best to train this out of her however have not been successful therefore would recommend a home without young children.
Koda does not get along with cats.
The idea home for this lovely husky to allow all her positive traits to shine would be a young couple without any children or pets. It would not be recommended for her to be adopted by an elderly couple or a couple with young children.
