About Smee
Smee is looking for a new foster home or adoptive home.
Smee is at the end of his time with a board and train trainer who has help with his confidence around new people and dogs, by all reports he was a model student and is now looking for a foster home or adoptive home who is willing to liaise with his trainer and continue her great work.
Smee's would like his new home to have:
-Owners or foster carers that have experience with dog training or prepared to take advice from a trainer if needed.
- Definitely another desexed confident young adult playful dog (Not Senior Or Puppy.) Smee lives being up.close and affectionate with other dogs.
- To be walked regularly.
- To have access to dog toys and chews.
- Access to inside when his family is home.
- Continued training and confidence building.
- To be fed a variety of ways to prevent scoffing of food, slow feeders, scattering food, hand feeding through training, smaller meals, etc.
- A good sized yard to play and run in.
Smee loves playing whether it’s with dogs or people. He has energy to burn and will need walks built into his daily routine to keep him content and happy. He loves to play tug and to chase balls, which are also great ways to use his energy and bond with him. When he is finished playing, he is happy just lying around and chewing on bones.
Smee can get excited when his family comes outside or return home, but he settles well. Smee can been nervous around new people and can at times bark at them. This usually resolves itself when he has been ignored and given time and space see videos. Being young Smee still needs reminders not to jump on people and may still puppy nip on occasions.
Smee is currently not good on long trips in the car and often vomits, but short trips have been fine. The vet has prescribed medication for this with good affect, and has said he will likely grow out of it.
Smee is learning to walk on a lead. He can be a little nervous and pull back or jump but with reassurance his back to walking normally. He is improving with this and would benefit from continued training and confidence building games.
Smee is VERY food orientated/obsessed and he is best eating from a slow feeder bowl. But he does become very focused on food. This does make it easier to use his meals for training treats but care is needed when people are eating. He is not food aggressive with other dogs or people he is just in a hurry to eat and will gulp it down in a few mouthfuls if not in his slow feeder, scatter fed or hand fed.
Smee is mostly toilet trained with regular outside times, but will have an inside accident occasionally when he is really excited, but this is improving. Smee is crate trained, every night he goes in his crate about 10.30pm and is let outside at 6.30/7am and doesn’t make a sound all night. The crate can be a useful tool when people are eating or new people arriving at the house.
During the day when his people are away from home, he is happiest outside with another dog, he would get bored inside. Smee would love to live with a confident tolerant young playful dog, but not a puppy or senior, he can play too much for an older dog.
It is not recommended that Smee lives with chooks, birds or cats. They are just too much fun to chase.
Smee would suit a bigger yard so he has room to play and run around.
The breed is to the best of our knowledge from the information we've been given.
