About Stumpy
Stumpy – 4-year-old Wolfhound / Cattle dog mix.
Left alone with his brother ( a Great Dane x ) when his dad was incarcerated.
His world may not have been a safe and secure place, but it was all he knew and understood.
This extraordinary boy is looking for an extraordinary person who can help him find his happy place.
Anyone who saw him frozen in fear on transport couldn’t help but feel heartbroken for him.
But who is Stumpy?
Stumpy is super affectionate and adores people and other dogs.
He is an easy and low-maintenance dog.
He does however have a lot to learn about life and his manners need some tweaks and refining.
He is a bit jumpy when excited so teeny tiny folks are probably not ideal – and he does get a bit excited around cats so they are probably not ideal housemates either.
Stumpy has the makings of an amazing, loyal and loving dog.
An absolute diamond in the rough.
Dear Dad
It's been a long time now since they took you away.
“Big Fella” and I waited quietly like you showed us to do.
We made ourselves as small as we could, and we made no sounds when the people came looking.
At first, we thought you would come back quickly like you always did.
We listened when the footsteps came and the people shouted out, but it was never you – so we knew it must be the bad people again.
We got hungry and tired.
We found scraps to eat but Big Fella said he didn’t want to eat anymore.
He got so very thin Dad.
When the people came and caught us we cried and cried, but they said we couldn't stay there any longer and we needed to go with them.
We knew this was bad as we were supposed to wait quietly till you came back but they wouldn’t listen.
Big Fella disappeared that day - I never saw him again Dad.
A lady told me he had gone to stay with someone who loved Great Danes like him.
She told me he was going to make Big Fella better and that I shouldn’t worry.
But I did worry Dad.
Because now I was all by myself.
The lady was kind, but she didn’t understand that I needed to go home and wait for you.
She didn’t understand that we were a team, you me, and Big Fella.
Us against the world you used to say, Dad.
She said you had signed the papers and that you weren't coming home for a very long time.
She said I needed to find a new team like Big Fella had done and that it would all be okay.
But no one came to be on my team Dad.
The lady said I needed a Rescue to find me, but we were so far away she couldn’t find one.
The lady cried Dad – I saw her cry and I knew that meant things were bad.
Because when you cried it was never good.
And then the van came for me.
I knew the van was a bad place and I was so scared.
I sat small and I sat quiet just like you showed me Dad, I made no sound at all.
When the door opened I stayed small and still but the lady saw me and she said “ Come on Stumpy Boy its okay”
She was a kind lady and something in my heart told me we could trust her Dad.
I have been here lots of days and nights now.
The lady says I am the loveliest boy she has ever met.
I thought she might be my new Team but she said we are just practicing right now and that I have the best Team ever waiting for me.
And you know what Dad – I believe her.
I have been getting happy heart feelings.
We have cuddles and snacks and runs and comfy beds.
I asked her if Big Fella had found his Dream Team and she said he has – so that’s made me happy.
She said that you are safe and getting the help you need and that I need to let you go now.
Its scary but it’s a happy scary and I want to say Thank you for loving me enough to let me go.
I promise to be good
The Lady says I don’t need to make myself small and quiet anymore.
Love Stumpy.
Stumpy is now desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date with his flea and worm treatments.
