About Tilly *On Trial*
*tilly is currently trialling her new home* found wandering the streets with her pup in tow tilly ended up in our local pound where of course her very cute pup was rehoused quickly so we decided to save sweet tilly and give her a chance at a better life too. We’re not sure of tilly’s past but we don’t think its one where she’s been loved and well cared for. Our vets had to give her a clip before she was vetworked because of all the nasty mats and tangles in her fur, it had been a long time since anyone had given her a brush let alone a bath. Her carer wasn’t even sure she’d eaten from a bowl before as she was so wary of it the first time it was placed in front of her. On arrival in foster care it took 3 days for tilly to warm up to people and realise they’re not going to hurt her – she attached herself to woody, a friendly, outgoing sarg pup who’s also available for adoption, and he’s the one we credit with bringing tilly out of her shell. Now tilly and woody play for hours on end and she even has the confidence to tell him off when she’s had enough of his crazy puppy antics! she gets on well with her carers own dogs too (a malt/shitz x and a heeler x) but tends to stay away from their cats though if one comes near her she will give them a low growl as if to say “please stay away from me”. Tilly’s not a lap dog (yet!) but she does like to lie at your feet or on her little bed in the lounge room while you watch tv. At night she sleeps in a basket beside her carers bed and is happy to stay there snuggled up until morning. She can be timid and shy around strangers but is getting better every day – she was cute and cuddly when i recently met her for the first time the other day so that’s progress. We don’t think she’s had much obedience training but with her gentle-nature good manners come naturally to tilly and she doesn’t jump up, isn’t licky or a yapper. She is learning to walk on a lead and enjoys getting out and about so long as woody is by her side leading the way. We doubt she’s ever been an inside dog though she’s adapting well and is going great guns with her toilet-training!
sweet tilly is quite low-maintenance only needing a short walk or a run around the backyard to use up her energy. Being a shih tzu cross little tilly doesn’t shed much hair though she’ll require a good brush once a week and a clip when required. Secure fencing, bones to chew on, toys to play with and love and kindness will make tilly very happy indeed. Not sure if you can really see it in her photos but she does have an underbite which gives her a quirky look! (being dark grey she was very hard to photograph so hopefully you can make her out in the video of her and woody below). Tilly would enjoy an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with a friendly doggie companion to keep her company and continue with her confidence building – perhaps even woody?? she actually cried when he had to go to the vets without her last week poor girl so she will definitely need company in her forever home. An older household would probably be best for tilly as young, unruly children may frighten her and set her back again. If you’ve got love and kindness to shower lovely little tilly with then please contact sarg for an application now!
