About Poe
Poe is an absolutely gorgeous cat, inside and out.
She is a petite girl with a stunning jet black coat and big, bright eyes that seem to look directly into your soul.
Poe was brought in from the streets with her two tiny newborn kittens, her brother, and her adult son. Poe was very scared of people and very protective of her newborn babies. As the weeks passed, she started to realise that her carers were actually kind people who brought her food and kept her safe and warm.
As the babies grew, they began interacting with humans under the very watchful eye of their mum. And little by little, Poe lowered her defences. (She still hated it when they took her babies to weigh them, though!) Then the day came for her bubs to go to their forever homes, and Poe was finally an independent queen, free to live a life without the constant burden of pregnancy and babies to protect.
Poe has become a very loving cat who adores pats and is even starting to let you pick her up (though she's still a bit nervous about this). She is purry and affectionate and is learning to approach people for pats. We have no doubt that she will continue to flourish in care and eventually become a couch cat... perhaps even a lap cat one day...??
Poe is a very laid back kitty. She is quiet and tidy and simply wonderful all-around. She also has a silly, playful streak, which is truly heart-warming to see. She is a young mumma who probably did not get much of an opportunity to be a kitten before she fell pregnant and was forced onto the path of being responsible and protective. One of our favourite things in rescue is watching cats finally feel safe enough to relax and truly enjoy life.
She gets along very well with all of the other cats in her foster home, regardless of their age or gender. She and her gigantic son, Dante, actually help to socialise the scared/shy/spicy cats who share the same room (they see Poe interacting with humans, which shows them that people aren't so scary after all).
Street cats retain their roaming tendencies for a long time after they are brought inside, so Poe will need to be an indoor cat. She likes to wander into other rooms and she would likely wander out of a door or open window, so she will need to be in a secure household.
Poe would be the perfect addition to almost any family. She might be a bit intimidated by energetic children, but she adapts so well to change that it would not be a dealbreaker (she might not let them pat her, though).
Please reach out if you would like to meet Poe. We also have her brother Levi up for adoption if you would like a pair of stunning, sweet kitties. Levi is a bit more timid, but he is truly a gentle giant who is learning to love pats, just like his sister.
(We are so happy to say that Poe's adult son Dante was just adopted!)
Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!
Apply here for Poe: https://form.jotform.com/sugarandspicecatrescue/cat-adoption-questionnaire
If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
