About Toulouse
Welcome to the world of Toulouse! And just like his namesake, he is spunky, charismatic, flamboyant and charming! This little lad is the Frenchman you have been waiting to sweep you off your feet! Please ensure you ready his whole profile before applying as she does have some particular requirements.
Toulouse is a toy poodle who came into care with a few litter mates. He was surrendered due to the previous owner being unable to rehome the puppies and they were getting older and becoming a bit much for him to handle. They were well taken care of and were provided necessary vet care prior to being surrendered. However, due to a lack of exposure for the first many months of his life, Toulouse came into care a timid and flighty dog. His foster carers have an amazing home environment, lots of dog experience and have put a great deal of effort into building his confidence - which is paying off! He is the happiest little man to see you in the morning (if he has not slept with you at night!). His energetic little bounces at your feet make you feel so adored, and he is ready follow your every move. This little shadow hates to miss out on anything, and prances along right next to you as you move from bedroom to bathroom, from lounge room to kitchen - his little smile looking up at you the whole time.
Toulouse loves his meals, especially meat and wet foods. He doesn’t particularly adore his kibble, but if you soak it all with warm water and his meat, he will gently and slowly eat it all. He loves a good quality dried chew - chicken or beef is a preference, and he will quietly lay down and occupy himself for a while. While he loves his meals, he isn’t super food motivated. He loves toys and all toys are fair game! The evenings are usually the time for some shenanigans. He throws his toys up in the air, pounces on them like a cat, shakes them like they’re prey, and then chews on them like they are dessert.
Toulouse came into care having only known his parents and litter mates. While he does like other dogs and has been building his confidence meeting new dogs, he does have preferences. He prefers dogs that aren’t intense and in his face - he will have a little snap if a big dog comes on too intensely, but is quick to reset. He has started playing with the household spaniel, but this special boy loves cats and would much prefer to play and cuddle with them. He will chase them a little if they run (not maliciously), so if you have a playful cat, he will be in heaven. He can be a little jealous (only ever grumbly) of his owner around other dogs in certain situations, so any multi dog households will need to ensure they understand early cues, as his foster carer has had no issues fixing this behaviour. Due to his young age and start to life, his new owners will need to continue his socialisation with other dogs, preferably in the form of play dates with known friendly dogs so he continues to gain confidence.
Toulouse may be small, but he has energy to burn! If you love to run, or are interested in dog sports, you may have found the best new sidekick. This pocket-rocket smiles the greatest when his is out running with you or doing zoomies at high velocity. He is still a puppy, so endurance is not there (especially in the heat), but he will be right with you, or right behind you, tongue hanging out and a grin on his face. Toulouse has an off switch though and enjoys nothing more than a cuddle on the couch with his people after his activity for the day. Due to his energetic nature, he is not suited to elderly people who are looking for a lap dog.
Toulouse is smart and his training is coming along well. He is mostly toilet trained (with normal puppy management) but does need an owner who will continue this training until he fully understands where and when to go. He is learning the crate is a lovely place to be. He sleeps for a good 6 hours in the evening at the moment without a peep. He is still getting the hang of sleeping in his crate throughout the whole night, so will need an owner ok with the odd wake up to resettle especially as he figures out his new home environment. He does very well on the lead, trots along next to, or in front of you. But if you let him fall behind, he will simply sit and change his mind about using his little legs - he will love you to pick him up here, but don’t let him fool you - those legs still work! He is not a barker - unless there is something to bark at. He will gallantly let you know if someone is at the front door or a noise outside needs to be investigated.
As a poodle, he will require regular grooming to remain as handsome as he is, but he is not a huge fan of clippers yet. He loves being combed though, and by taking it slow he falls asleep and allows you to just groom him gently. He will need owners who have the time and financial means to ensure he is groomed daily at home and professionally regularly. Toulouse absolutely LOVES the water, so a home with access to water would be ideal for him. He can live with kids as long as they are respectful of small dogs and the adults in the household have time to continue his development. He needs a home where people will be home more often than not as he is still working on his independence, and he will need to be allowed inside as part of the family.
This snuggly boy cannot wait to find his forever family where he will be taken on lots of fun adventures and provided lots of love and guidance. In return, he will give you endless laughs and cuddles - he seriously is an amazing dog! If you are missing a little curly fluff ball in your life, then fill out the application form on our website and please include plenty of extra detail about your home and the type of lifestyle you can provide him to stand out from other applicants. Please note due to the expected number of applicants we will only be shortlisting a few best sounding applications for a phone interview.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
