About Bart
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Bart
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound with his 7 siblings.
BREED: Mixed – we don’t know the parentage and consequently don’t know their adult size but we think around medium, we also think these puppies will have some American Staffordshire Terrier in their mix.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age so attendance at puppy school with continued training around friendly well-mannered dogs will enhance their sociability.
********************************************************************************
ASSETS: Independent, happy, playful and confident. He loves to play with his foster siblings and cuddle with his carer and when his happy his his cute little tail goes a 100mph.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Bart is a typical puppy with bursts of energy where he loves to rough and tumble with his siblings and play with balls and rope toys. He will play for a while then settle down with his siblings for a snooze before waking up and doing it all over again!
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s great with everyone he meets and Bart and his siblings are all very affectionate.
OTHER ANIMALS: Being a young puppy he will get on well with other friendly dogs after gentle, supervised introductions and would go well in a home with either another youngish dog to play with, or a home where he gets to meet other dogs regularly. He could live with a dog-savvy, confident cat, again after gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Bart will need training for pretty much everything as he’s so young at present. He doing great with his toilet training and is proficient in using the dog door, there is still the occasional accident when there's too much fun being had and he forgets to go outside. He’ll benefit greatly from puppy school and ongoing classes into adulthood where he can mix with other dogs, and this is a commitment we will expect from his new owner. All the pups have been crate trained and are used to their crate for nap/chill time and at night. If you have children we strongly recommend that you continue with a crate as their quiet space for the safety of puppy and children. We expect these pups to be medium sized when fully grown but there are no guarantees.
ESSENTIALS for Bart:
** a loving home where someone is there for most of the day especially in the first six months after adoption
** a home where he is treated as part of the family and is allowed to be inside or out as he needs and to sleep inside at night
** a decent sized garden where he can run, play, sniff and explore
** attendance at puppy school and continued training into adulthood for him to learn and grow confidence
** continued positive, gentle exposure and socialisation
** Bart will have bursts of energy while a pup and will be medium energy as an adult dog.
Bart could live with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 years of age who will play and interact with him gently but know when to give him space.
