About Betty
Little Betty is ready for meets.
She is being desexed and having her booster vaccination on 24/01 so will not be leaving care before then but we are looking to arrange meets the weekend prior.
Little Betty has caused a lot of excitement ( little dogs always do) but as with every dog, we are looking for the best match for her personality.
We review all expressions of interest and only arrange a couple of meetings initially, please respect our judgment as the people who know her best and please do not take offence if you are not selected – it is not personal to you.
Betty may be small but what she lacks in size she makes up for in sass and personality.
She is about 9 months old and weighs in at a tiny 3kg.
Her microchip has her listed as a silky terrier x – we see some chihuahua in her too maybe – but as with most rescue dogs we really don’t know.
If a specific breed is what you are looking for please don’t apply as there is no guarantee at all (apart from the fact she is tiny)
What we can say is that she has a lot of terrier traits going on
Betty is no sissy lap dog - she is a total character who is always up for a challenge and adventure.
Betty has her nose in most things and a keen interest in everyone elses business.
She loves to hang out with you in the house or garden and she has been known to get underfoot often – she is not suitable for an elderly or infirm owner – nor teeny tiny toddlers who are wobbly on their feet.
Betty is very loving and loyal.
When she decides it's time for some intense “Betty Love”, you won't get a say in the matter.
She will cuddle and kiss you and protestation is fruitless – it's best just to go with the flow.
Humans offended by face-licking pups should not apply.
She also has a very independent side and enjoys taking herself off to poke around in the grass, behind sheds, and in compost bins.
She has given her carer many a heart attack by disappearing in the yard for a mini adventure and only coming back when she wants to.
Betty now has a bell on her collar so she can at least be heard if not seen.
She will need secure fencing to stop her inquisitive nose and paws from taking her underneath.
Oblivious to her size she loves to rock and roll with her labrador, and border collie mix housemates.
She has adored her “brothers” since day 1 and would do really well with a friendly sibling.
She did meet a female labradoodle who she really did not take to so female dogs are probably not her bag.
She adores toys and games and loves to satisfy her hunting instincts by playing find the toy you have hidden.
Be warned though she does take this game seriously and will take to digging through open wardrobes etc to collect a shoe, bag or other treasure she decides is an interesting find.
She has proudly brought her carer a geko or two as a gift so her owners need to be prepared for potential terrier gifts ongoing.
Betty has a lot of energy and is incredibly fast and nimble – her zoomies are truly a sight to behold.
She can also jump high and long and many a gasp has been heard as she flies through the air between sofas and chairs.
She loves to sit on the high back of the sofa to watch the world go buy or just to have a nanna nap – if you are a ‘ no dogs on the furniture “ type of home then Betty is not for you.
Speaking of naps, Betty is an early to bed type of girl.
8.30 – 9pm is her limit.
If you are getting Betty Love at that time she will persevere and has been known to fall asleep sitting up.
More often than not though she will happily take herself off to bed.
She currently sleeps in a little igloo bed in a crate and she sleeps right through the night with no noise or bother.
Her new owner will need a good sense of humour to appreciate the mischief this little Miss can get into.
Betty is still very much a puppy and has chewed the corner of a wall and a sofa cushion – normal puppy behaviour but certainly something her new owner needs to know.
She also pees a little when you come home and when she sees you in the morning – if peeing on your foot is a deal breaker – again please do not apply.
Training is at Betty's pace – she is stubborn but also keen to please so a lot depends on her mood that day.
Toilet training is going okay ( as long as its not raining, or there is something else more interesting happening, or she is in a stubborn mood ).
She has also been known to pee on a cushion if the fancy takes her – so again if that’s a deal breaker – step away from Betty.
Betty does not react well to chastising or loud voices and will retreat and hide if she feels you are angry with her – positive reinforcement and gentle correction is essential.
If you are still reading and think you are a match for this precious little ball of fun, please send us a detailed message telling us all about yourself and the life you could share with her.
Betty will be desexed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with her flea and worm treatments.
Her adoption fee is $995 and she is in foster care at Strathpine – North Brisbane.
She is not available for interstate adoption.
Thank you
