About Peppercorn
Peppercorn is a super sweet boy who thinks he is a very scary cat. He talks a big game, but he is actually just a timid soul who (not so) secretly wants to be friends with people.
This gorgeous boy LOVES food. It is the way to his heart.
He also loves pats, but he needs to get to know you first (and the fastest way to get to know him is to offer him food! :D )
Pepper is basically an oversized kitten. He came in off the streets at a young age but was way too terrified to relax and play. Now that he has learned that humans don't pose a threat, he is finally able to be the playful, goofy cat that he has always been deep down inside.
One little quirk: Peppercorn hisses hello. It's kind of his thing. It's not menacing, it's just what he does to greet you. This is not an uncommon trait in reformed street cats. They get so used to hissing at people when they are terrified, but once they are no longer terrified they still do it as an automatic response. The "hiss hello" is an endearing characteristic of cats who have successfully transitioned from spicy cat to sweet cats.
While still a bit timid around new people, Peppercorn is very approachable. He lets his foster carer come up to him, sit down next to him, and give him lots of pats. He is still a little unsure about that last part, but he is starting to lean into it. We're wearing him down. :)
Peppercorn came into care as a VERY scared and spicy boy, but he has settled in beautifully. He absolutely *adores* other cats, and he immediately befriended three of our other foster cats (Dante, Leviathan, and Poe), who helped him to gain confidence.
He has now paid that forward to two new foster siblings--Thebes and Scarborough--who look to him for social cues with people.
Peppercorn would thrive in a household with a friendly cat who can bring him the rest of the way out of his shell and show him once and for all that humans can be pretty awesome. He would also be ok on his own, though.
Please consider opening your home and heart to this beautiful boy.
Adoption details
If interested in a cat that is available for adoption, we require you to fill out an adoption application, and one of our lovely foster carers will give you a call to organise a time for a meet and greet.
Please note: As we are all volunteers with limited time up our sleeves, we prefer all interested potential adopters to fill out an application, rather than send an enquiry, as this helps us know more about you and what you are after, and saves us all a lot of time!
Apply here for Maraca: https://form.jotform.com/sugarandspicecatrescue/cat-adoption-questionnaire
If forms aren't for you though, please SMS us (the number is in the link) and we can call to go through the form over the phone.
