About Ruby - 1 Year Old Kelpie X (Trial)
Meet Ruby , a one year old tan Kelpie x , she loves being with her foster carers, and if inside, she will be right at your feet, unless she sees an opportunity to play with her doggie friends, which she is learning to do nicely.
She hasn’t shown any interest in toys yet, but just loves her game of fetch, which she shares with her Koolie “sister”, it is a friendly race to get to the ball first, but no fights, just bragging rights. She tends to have the usual two puppy speeds, flat out and flat out.
She would love an active family that would welcome her into their home, a dog of similar size to play with and keep her company would be ideal. Older kids would be good as Ruby is still growing into her goofy, excitable body, and could accidentally knock over smaller kids with her happy butt and whippy tail. However, she is not a jumper, just bouncy.
She loves a walk but her manners need improving around other dogs and cars. Further training at this is highly recommended as she is quite strong. She would be a good companion for a runner in time.
She has had no accidents inside and seems to be fully toilet trained.
Since coming into care Ruby has learnt to sit, wait for her food (she is not food aggressive at all – even allows other doggies to lick her bowl clean). She is learning to sleep all night in her crate, which she goes into willingly, her recall is amazing. Call her, and she is usually by your side in a couple of seconds, asking you what you wanted.
She listens to you and knows when you want her to stop doing something, but also loves your praise, and will gladly roll over for a tummy rub.
She has made no attempt to escape, and respects both the wire mesh and colourbond fencing. However, she is rarely alone outside in the yard.
She will require on going training to make her realise it is okay to not be able to see you or know where you are. Something that the reassurance of a furrever home will give. As she does bark occasionally sometimes to ask where you are, and at other times, for no reason at all. But when she hears your voice or sees you she quickly settles.
Ruby has had a tough start to her life, the fact she still wants to be around humans so much and wants doggie friends, is an amazing testament to her big heart. If you are looking for a mid size dog, that you can spend time moulding, running, teaching tricks, and just flopped by your side, she will pay you back more than you’ll ever know.
